  • Cause of Department Stores' Decline: Changing Spending Habits [View article]
department stores usually do not provide shopping carts ; walmart , target, home depot ,lowes, dollar tree do. I am old and definitely prefer pushing a cart over carrying my selections as I move from one part of the store to others. not providing carts is stupid

  • Another Bad Week for WiMax, and Clearwire [View article]
I use the wimax system in the baltimore area to get internet over the air; it works very well and it costs me only 25 dollars a month , later to go to 35 after 6 months. They have a 50 dollar plan that lets one have the service on both a desktop unit and a service on a laptop not tied to home usage. the 50 dollar plan is fixed at 50 dollars for as long as one wants it.

  • What if the Credit Crunch Is Just a Symptom? [View article]
The problem as I see it is that president Carter and the congressional democrats passed a law that deems rebates of value added taxes to not be an anti-competitive trade practice. Since then, exporting countries like Germany have increased their value added taxes to maximize their mercantilistic exploitation of the USA {20 % value added tax now} . I remember the justification used during the press articles on Carter's proposal as being the alleged necessity to keep western Europe"s income high to diminish the lure Communism had on Europe's working class. Maybe the policy was right while the USSR lived but now it is gone and unfortunately so is much of our working classes income. Time for a real change. We either replace our income tax with a value added tax or we repeal Carter,s exemption for their value added tax rebates in considering whether to impose trade sanctions. By way have our labor union economists had their heads up their rears since Carter,s policy was implemented?

how come the predatory mercantilist policies of our socialist trading partners are seldom criticized by our leftists? For example-rebate of value added taxes to exporters of goods to the USA. what is wrong with the culture of the left that they ignore the damage done by many hundreds of billions in trade deficits per year?

re punishing mercantilists i would like to add that less trade even no trade is better than running 800 billion dollar a year trade deficits ; the end result of which is inevitable national bankruptcy.

another way of looking at the trade deficit is that the usa does not require those that sell to us to buy an equivalent amount from us. obviously some of our trading partners do not deserve to be called partners since they are practicing what amounts to a beggar thy neighbor policy towards the usa. tariffs that are adjustable to the trade balance with each exporter to the usa is one way to punish mercantilism and to reward fair traders.

the walmart I shop at sells led light bulbs that use 1.5 watts and produce as many lumens as a 40 watt incandescent bulb. this product is a real energy use killer. i paid 5.67 dollars per long life bulb.most walmarts i have checked don't carry it. if interested harass the manager of your local store until she gets it for you.
