Well-written 'Big Picture' article, and also excellent comment by Frflyer. There is too much 'dog-eat-dog' capitalism in the US, and not enough of the 'humane' capitalism found in some European countries and Canada. Reforms are needed to ensure that work and savings of the middle and poor classes are not ravaged by inflation and wreckless politicians, while ensuring that hard-working individuals and entrepreneurs have opportunities to gain wealth.
Do any of the presidential candidates look like they will help improve the situation, and reduce the rapacious influence of the large banks and investment houses on our economy? Does it look as if McCain's policies could be an improvement over Bush's? Also, need to remember that improvements in our government policies have to come about from grassroots citizens' pressure--and many of them are undereducated about economics and social policies.
