Funfun, just wanted to let you know my GM warrants are up over 10% ...keep up your relentless and comical bashing of GM and BAC...I'm beginning to think I need to buy BAC as well...
    Reminds me of...
Albert Einstein was quoted as saying:
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

  • More on GM's U.S. auto sales report [View news story]
funfun... give up... you were wrong about GM. It's OK to admit being wrong and take your losses. Go on to trade another day. Most of us use this site as an investment platform to bounce ideas back and forth off each other; not to constantly bash GM and BAC. It's OK.......
best of luck in future trades!

  • General Motors June U.S. sales [View news story]
The CURRENT GM products are selling well because they are some of the best on the market. Regardless of what PAST issues are hurting bottom line. GM used to make mediocre cars. Now, they are producing cars in line with the quality of their pickups.

  • Best May Retail Sales in 10 Years Nets Records for Fusion, Escape, Lincoln MKZ; Best Explorer Sales Since July 2005 [View article]
Not really fair to compare Ford's outdated clunky Explorer SUV sales to the current Crossover-styled new model sales. Yes, they should have gone up substantially. I'm not dissing Ford; on the contrary, I'm applauding the new model. Heck, I'd buy one if I had the money, but the comparrison saying "best sales month since 2005" is a little misleading. Good product but can't say the same for many other models.

Saturday Night Live has "mocked" many of my favorite people....
Guess what? When you're on there it's also because you're popular. I don't use TV shows to guide my investing nor do most. Please put just 1 fact in your writings funfun...even if it's "I short GM and so should you."

I think we have the answer already...people laid off (or resigning), massive (preemptive) recalls, internal investigation promising full disclosure. Mary is making her mark now and the shareholders in my circles like it.

That's a solid point...I try to invest in companies that I use and that I think have a favorable opinion and solid financials.

I love Buffett. How can you be an investor and not idolize him. Just read THE SNOWBALL and you'll see the man behind the money. That being said, what Buffett does with his billions and what I do with my thousands will never be the same. It's a different style of investing that should not mirror each other. I'd be just as worried to follow him as he would be to start mirroring my investment strategy. He is an investing genius and it's great to see what moves he makes but one must keep in mind that most of us on here are not playing in the same league...at least not this guy!

I do mirror Buffett in his support of Barra. She's done a great job with what she got handed. She's being an open book (as much as possible) and being proactive rather than reactive. If old GM were acting as she, would they be in this mess? I tend to think not.

Luck to all and happy trading!

Also of note after reading your linked article from The Detroit Free Press: It seems that a large part if not a majority of these incidents had already been settled by GM when they paid out settlements prior to bankruptcy. So, not only are they protected by the bankruptcy but most of the deaths had already been settled out of court.

Well written article Mr. Merola. I have taken the once Buffet-esque view of "why diversify" on GM. I am now 100% GM warrants on my portfolio. Crazy? Maybe, but where else can you get a blue chip company at a 7 and some change Forward P/E??? It doesn't exist. I don't know how long I'll hold but I'm sure I'll be more than fine by the strike dates. My confidence comes from an area that doesn't get mentioned about enough on this site. QUALITY. I am a part-time mechanic as a hobby. I work on all types of vehicles. The quality found in GM and BMW is just not matched in any other vehicles. The difference in those 2 is that over the past 5 or so years GM quality is steadily improving and BMW has lessened. I'm sure there are many on here who will throw out disagreements and other opinions and that's fine. I don't claim to know it all and my trading record is not perfect. But I do like GM and I do know cars better than many and I also see Barra as doing a fine job thus far.
