  • Is Governor Zhou a Closet Bernanke-ite? [View article]
cite below an opinion what I want to say:
Yes it is fair enough for China / Japan to import more goods from the US to correct the trade imbalance. I do believe that they want to buy from US as well, why is that not happening?

The answer comes from Economics 101 - every nation has a relative competitive advantage due to the difference in opportunity cost. US does have huge advantage over the rest of the world in a number of areas, esp in high-tech industries, aviation, financial services (to a large extent). However US is not exporting these products - Chinese / Japanese companies and governments are not stupid and you can't just ask them to buy toxic assets (I do consider US treasury notes one of them). Sell something useful, and they should be willing to pay a good price. Apr 05 12:37 PM |Report abuse| Link | Reply +9-2

  • Chinese Monetary Policy Driven by RMB Speculation [View article]
I live in Shanghai, a local Shanghainese. Looking around, I found no significant price decrease, but the transaction number drops. Many friends of mine are still planning to upgrade their appartment.
If the media wanna say the market is down, they can get data support that they want. The supply from suburb's dilute the pricing index. A propety in my own community is listed even ~10% higher than earlier monthes making the new record.
I agree the price in Guangzhou decreased a lot, but it increased too much last year. If you see it as long term view, nothing is strange to you.

  • Potash Arena Shrinking After BHP's Acquisition of Anglo Potash [View article]
If you look into this industry contiunesly, you will find potash fertilizer is always a profitable business. China demands more than 10M tonnes a year plus 10% more in the next years, but produces only 3M right now. The capacity of self suply would be up to 5-6 M tonnes until 2012 or later. I have some position of Chinese potash company for long time, I am a chinese investor, knowing very well about our market. This company is the main player in China producing single product - KCl more than 2 M, 2 thirds of all nation's. I m caring the world's suply / demands changes, I did not find any reason to sell out the postion by 2012.

  • Potash/Fertilizer Industry: The Week That Was [View article]
I am a Chinese invest, I do investment on chinese potash company- Salt Lake Potash Co. , the company got double wins on the price incresment of potash. The import price to China now is about 700usd CIF, and the cost for the production is only about 130usd. You can image how profitable for the company in the following years. It makes more than 2M tonnes a year, occuping 20% of the market.
Now the company worths about 8-9 billion US.
The problem is the potash price is already so high, it will hurt the end farmers. Now Chinese government controls the pricing (the price for the local potash is about 500usd last in later March and no new price has been issued since then). Otherwise the stock crazy bull in China will boost the stock selling at 18 billion, I guess.

Sorry for my terrible English writing.
