Three Strikes from Apple and Palm May Be Out [View article]
Correction... Apple was solvent enough at the time and was in no eminent danger of going under; the infusion of cash from MS was a two-way deal that also guaranteed MS would continue to port Office to the Mac with full support. I think they made their money back - in spades! I'd read up a bit on your history, friend.

Boy, you REALLY don't get Apple TV, do you? Since the 2.0 upgrade, it has been the source of at least 50% of family room entertainment at our home. All the photo files, movies, iTunes playlists, music videos, audio AND video podcasts, etc. on our nearby computer are playable through HDMI in 720p on our 62" TV screen... a much better picture than off a DVD player. Plus Flickr and YouTube streamed in - we can spend hours alone just pecking around in YouTube watching comedians and great musical artists perform. Downloadable movies were a bit scarce at first, but now they have so many titles we haven't been to Blockbuster for literally months. We cancelled Satellite 18 months ago and the savings have easily paid for the movies we rent and TV shows we buy through Apple TV. Apple TV is easily the best investment we've ever made in home entertainment - besides our Wi and Wi Fit!

To jmmx - On the movie comment, you'd be right if all sales and rentals were $1.00. If all the transactions were only rentals at an average cost of $3.50, then the annual dollars accrued to Apple would actually be over $63M. That should buy a few more servers... It's actually more than this because many people actually buy, not just rent. Not bad!
Hey Webster: What planet are you living on? Just because you can't afford one doesn't mean AppleTV is junk. Even Mr. Jobs says it's been a work in progress and since v. 2.0 it DOES display pure HD - like a charm. Between movie rentals, many in HD, our photo slideshows, YouTube on demand, iTunes music and music videos on demand, Flickr, thousands of podcasts, and - oh yeah - all the music from our iTunes library, this little box keeps us entertained for hours upon hours if we let it. This product is still in its infancy and you can be sure Apple has even more planned for it so please, get a grip!
