Great article, with good supporting datasets on India. I agree with you, when a storm blows, everyone will be affected. But India is fundamentally an inward looking economy which means that the global turmoil will be tempered there. For long term investors, IBN at $20 is really cheap.
Buying options at this VIX level is STUPID. Do people realize that!!! Its better to do covered calls now since the stocks are way down and calls are way overpriced. Look at GOOG for that.
Google's Deadly Flirtation With Yahoo! [View article]
YAHOO deliberately went to Google's arms to jilt Microsoft. Yes, this might not be the best deal from a consumer's point of view, but I dont think Yahoo was thinking about them. YHOO is a dead man walking... buy lots of puts on them. GOOG is a winner, regardless of how this turns out and is way too cheap here at $370. BUY BUY BUY.

I know everyone is rushing in to buy gold now due to the increase in money supply. BUT, the Indians (who have been smart enough to hoard gold all these decades) start selling at these high levels, watch out below. Though they are not in the list above (and it may well be that the govt of India doesnt have official reserves), rest assured that Indians have tonnes buried in their backyards as it were. Anecdotally, I can tell you when gold ran up the last time to $1000, there were lots of Indians selling it. So the point I am making is that the official reserves dont tell the whole story. Be careful with GLD and have tight stops.
I'm Speechless: Palin on the Bailout [View article]
It's ming-boggling that she is even being considered to be a VP...she is so over her head. There are 2 huge missteps here for a campaign which claims "Country First":- 1. McCain took a huge gamble in picking her as his running mate, which in itself is a big mistake (I guess he was desperate to get the women votes of Hillary) 2. Palin - who said she didnt even blink when accepting - should have blinked many times and thought it over 1000 times whether this is the best for the country rather than for her career. Net net, if these two do actually manage to hoodwink the American people and win, I am moving to Canada, lock, stock and barrel. Oh and getting ready to sell the US dollar BIG TIME.
IBN is a buy here. They already have reported their subprime and Lehman exposure, so that news is baked into the stock. The upside is that India is planning to stop any rate hikes going forward and might actually cut rates which should be beneficial for IBN. Also, the cash reserve ratio is being reduced for more liquidity. If the markets stabilize, I see IBN around $30 by Oct end, a good 10-15% bump.
Get out of the SKF. The govts naked intervention in the market and the fact that most of the financials have already reached bottom means there is not much upside left in this. If you still think some specific financials are still too highly priced, just buy puts on those directly. I will be buying the XLF now as the upside is more there.
Tata Motors and the Rumble in Singur [View article]
The Tata group have been doing business very successfully in India for the past 100 years and trust me, they know how to get the political goodies from another state for the Nano plant. They have other plants that can produce Nano. Once the nano starts rolling out from Pune or Pantnagar plant, all of this talk will subside. Also, the winter is the festival/wedding season and generally Indians spend a lot now. I wont be surprised if TTM starts climbing to the mid teens by year end. Buy Jan 09 $10 calls and sit back for now.
i think this is dead money for the next few qtrs. they hired HUGE and with revenues going down, margins are sure to come down. stay away till next year
