Just look at the GDP composition by sector and you will come clearly to the same realization: 20% share of healthcare that is funded by employees of all other industries; 20% financial services; 17% industry; There are big non productive pockets that cannot be stimulated in any way: they live off the ability to borrow from abroad. So forget about JM Keynes and government spending as the way out.

These are matters of fact that GM/F: 1. can produce fuel efficient vehicles and sell them well in Europe; 2. the profit margins on the above mentioned vehicles are not as attractive; 3. the above mentioned vehicles are much more technologically advanced and require more specialized equipment and workers than weed smoking Joes with heavy hammers; 4. managment is so resistent to any type of change that they'd rather spend money lobbying (or bribing as it is called in the rest of the world) politicians than retooling factories.
