  • 35% of respondents to a NABE survey released today say demand in their industry is falling, with 30% saying demand is higher. Every time since 1982 that weak demand has overtaken strong, the economy has later proved to be in a recession.  [View news story]
    Nah, the "fundamentals of the economy are strong"! You betcha!

    (*cough, cough*)

    I own some SLV, but it seems that in the short term, deflation still rules the day. I've read more than one article preaching short term deflation followed by hyper inflation as the gov't + Fed try to stop the stagflation. Mark mentions the hyper inflation part, but I don't see anyone talking about the short term deflation that we've been experiencing.

  • 5 Reasons to Ignore Buffett [View article]
    My immediate thought regarding this article is that there are probably lots of lawyers and doctors who make more than $100k/year. Probably mostly depends on what part of the country.

    There's a reason why Buffett does so well. He doesn't move with the herd. The herd follows him.

    'Just when I thought I was out, you pulled me back in.'

    Isn't that also Al Pacino in one of the Godfather movies?

    Enjoyed the article as usual. Thanks.

    Thanks, Chris!

    I have cashed out 2/3 of my position, but still plan on holding onto my last 1/3 of AAR. I managed to get lucky and catch the temporary bottom of ~10. I'll rebuy if it dips again.

    FWIW, there's a typo in your "related stocks" pick. It's showing up as Nucor (NUE) not New Market (NEU).

    @Aalan

    You're right of course: The 12 month performance of SPY is down about 35% while SSO is down about 65%. It's up to investors to decide if that's big enough of a difference, I guess.

    The writer's basic idea still holds water to a certain extent, however.

    Enjoyed the commentary. While I hope the bottom is in, it seems pretty doubtful that yesterday (and today) is nothing more than a bear market bounce.

    Any word on AIR? You've recommended it in the recent past, and it bottomed last Friday at around 10 before going up to around 13 today. John Nelson Simon of Zacks.com wrote an opinion piece last Thursday saying it's a Sell with a target price of 13.81.
