  • Seadrill: Don't Worry, Seadrill Will Make It Through A Sector Downturn [View article]
<When releasing fourth quarter earnings, Chief Executive Officer Per Wullf acknowledged that Seadrill "operates in a market that is, and will continue to be cyclical".> This must be a newish revelation for Seadrill management; the maniacal way they spent money, built new rigs on spec, went into debt and paid out a nosebleed dividend payout ratio showed reckless abandon and arrogance.

Buybacks are not a good indication of value. Most mgts flounder when it comes to buying back shares at value prices. You want to learn about buybacks. "Henry Singleton, teledyne" I bought this stock at about 13 in late 1990's following the acctg irregularities. reinvested all dividends over that period and recently sold all shares at or near record price levels in this company Do not like the financial engineering going on here or the valuation. So owned it like 15 years.

  • Ensco slashes its quarterly dividend by 80% to $0.15/share [View news story]
This mgt has atrociously managed the company for shareholder value. The pride acquisition was a massive shareholder value killer. The goodwill being written down $2.998 billion goodwill impairment . Good job. BUT it was non-cash? Sure it was. Non-cash to mgt but shareholders paid dearly. Probably under 20 may be a consideration.
Then they did that irresponsible dividend jackup just not to long ago and are now taking it back. This mgt was so out of touch with the dynamics of this cyclical business .
Also mgt has run up the debts at 42% debt to capital.

sorry to much caffeine, does the 18 billion in cap ex include dtv? how much of the 18 bil is maintenance vs growth cap ex? the problem i have with this industry is that technology is constantly in need of updating so it is very difficult to know what is maintenance and what is growth cap ex. will the 3 billion reduction in cap ex be required in the future.
2015 estimated fcf for the entire enterprise is? thanks

xom as well as many other mega market cap cos are hitting the ev ceiling. It takes to much to grow such a huge company. this is only one reason but we are seeing an increase of spinoffs and demergers to split up cos. also the big oils just are having trouble growing reserves, production and fcf.
