  • Consumer confidence rebounds modestly in December [View news story]
"good for future payroll outlook" when participation rate is at multi decade lows?
Bro things are wonderful, stocks are near record levels, house prices coming back and hopefully the 3% down loans too. Consumer Confidence is back to 2007 levels. Emerging markets are having convulsions due to king dollar. It is nice benefit to control the reserve currency. Oh wait a minute we are squandering away that benefit and that inflation these brics face every 5-10 years will be coming here.
<<Over that same time period the Vanguard S&P 500 Index Fund has gained 881% (dividends reinvested)>> Sure most investors got 881% after racing into the hot sectors / housing the last few decades then blow up and run for cover. Some of us have held the same stocks for decades. Have you?

  • Update: Slashing The Dividend Is A Wise Move By Penn West [View article]
a little to late here. this company should of hunkered down as soon as new mgt took over from the former incompetents. It amazes me that investors still talk about a dividend when capital is being incinerated. Dividend hounds do not care about return of principal? Shareholders should be outraged if this mgt receives a bonus or stock options. Mgt failed miserably protecting shareholder capital by paying a dividend and not reducing debt with the leftover residual and lack of hedges.

  • Ensco PLC: Cycle-Low Valuations [View article]
Bright move add 527 mil in debt to pay the dividend in this type of pricing environment?
The pride acquisition was a shareholder disaster and the $3 billion in goodwill is at risk to be written down or off imo.

  • Why U.S. Treasury Holders Have Reason To Be Concerned [View article]
I see we have a bubble in complacency. King dollar. we own the e-printer so everything is fine. Hey nothing to worry about as bilateral trade agreements continue to grow bypassing dollar transactions. It can be a long drawn out process but when dollar devaluation happens it will be quick.

according to when money dies pg 156 "rent restriction is habitually one of the first and cheapest govt devices to restrain the cost of living...." So to think rents keep up with high inflation is wishful thinking. yes a fixed mtg at a low rate is great as long as one can make the payments.

you seem to think the US controls everything. When the monetary system transitions it will not be our choice. we are fatcats while everyone else gets these currency crisis every 5 years or so. 2nd rate increase? we will have an emerging market crisis before that ever happens imo. emerging markets are a bigger part of global gdp now.
