  • CANROYs Remain Attractive as Oil-Related Investments [View article]
The 3 CanRoys I own are PWE, PVX and ERF. Great dividend yields and hoping for growth in the stock prices. I would add to ERF south of 38, PVX south of 10, and PWE south of 27.

Jack I don't see Enerplus (ERF) in your recommended basket - are you still recommending ERF? I'm looking to add to my position south of 38, your thoughts?

Thanks Jack, I guess I assumed it was not a "blowout" since the stock has declined, but apparently there's no correlation, since all the other oils have dropped too. I'm impressed by ERF here, seems well-managed. Low debt levels and an increase in their payout. Juicy 15% divy as well.

Jack, in June you said if oil stayed above $120 that PWE would have a blowout quarter. Oil did average over $120, but PWE did not deliver a good quarter. Can you provide some insight and analysis into PWE’s results, and discuss specifically why they did not make the numbers you were expecting? Thanks.

This is very dissapointing for those of us long PWE. How do they not perform well with oil at 120-140 for Q2? Points to poor management. I'm much more impressed by Enerplus's (ERF) results, seems like a very well managed company. I'm looking to add to my position in ERF south of $39.

JACK, Can you interpret PWE's earning release for us? How does it compare with your forecasts? Thanks!

UH-OH! Enerplus (ERF) today announced a huge quarter, a 12% increase in it's dividend, and the market.....yawned!? What gives? I know its a down day (dow currently down 180), but still! Does this not bode well for PWE tmrw?

Jack: This is from the May 6 earnings release. I read into this that they are pleased to be able to keep the payout the same and apply cash elsewhere. "Penn West's funds flow is expected to be $2.7 billion to $2.9 billion for this year. Should commodity prices remain reasonably close to the current forward strip prices, our payout ratio would remain below our targeted range. This lower payout ratio(1) would afford us the opportunity to apply additional funds to debt repayment, adding strength to our balance sheet(2)."

Regarding PWE's dividend, write this down: PWE does not want to increase the dividend (based on comments made in the last earnings release), will not increase the dividend, and should not increase the dividend. They have other plans for the cash, and at 12%, it's enough.

I own and love PWE, but what about the P/E? Yahoo Finance lists it at 58. If this is correct, is this high? Anyone worried about it being overpriced when the majors like XOM have P/E's around 12?

I own PWE at 32 and am considering adding more. But what about the P/E? Yahoo Finance lists it at 58. If this number is accurate, is P/E a consideration? Seems kinda high!
