Hey Mark Cuban, Is The Stock Market Still 'For Suckers'? [View article]
Suckers put their money in the stock market. There's no question about that.
Educated individuals invest their money in the stock market also.
Individuals must understand their unique situations and determine what their goals are. For me, the risk that all of my stocks bottom next year and I need my money for an emergency is worth is relatively unlikely. Because I have access to other capital, few emergencies will cause me to withdraw my investments. If I must withdraw, odds are I will be up rather than down. Further, I can come back by reinvesting in the stock market after my unfortunate circumstances. It's a 'risk' that I consider minimal compared to the returns I believe I can generate by investing in great companies.
But that is a decision I made. I understand the risks.
I have a problem with people who have blind faith. Equally, I have a problem with people who dismiss tremendous opportunity before they take the time to truly understand it.
