  • Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [View article]
For once the US banks did something right --- they didn't invest in the Dubai bubble. They didn't miss Arizona, Florida, California, Nevada or anything else .... other than C, which is the reason the bank is being propped up at 4.

I agree, this is old news and no big surprise. Light trading day with lots of people digesting turkey or shopping. Probably a better buying opportunity than the 5 dollar toys at Walmart.

Jim Cramer should team up with Cosmo Kramer --- the one who lives across the hall from Jerry. Cramer vs. Kramer?

ADCT. Well, it was a Cramer pick for the new age telephone 3G play at around 7 or 8. That didn't work, so now it's a Cramer pick under 6. Bought it at 5.50 and sold it at 6.15 today, deciding that even a broken clock is right twice a day. Thanks, Jim.

  • Where's the Financial Accountability? [View article]
So instead of paying out billions in bonuses, why not put the money to use to help resolve a problem --- after all, it was tax payer money that bailed them out in the first place. After that, why not protect American citizens from fraud and a multitude of other unlawful acts by prosecuting these criminal acts? Sounds reasonable, but I seriously doubt it will ever happen -- especially since we left the foxes to guard the chicken coop. Americans are fed up and who can blame them? I'm fed up too.

I have been building a position in FRO from 19 and continue to buy, along with other select names in the oil and dry bulk group. FRO pays a 4% dividend and trades at a sane multiple. The company beat earnings last quarter and may very well put in a repeat performance this week.

  • China May Be Eying Metallurgical Coal Acquisition [View article]
Watch HTE and see if the Canadian government is willing to sell off natural resources and security to a foreign country. I owned the stock and took the profit, as I'm not sure.

There is no doubt about the Obama position regarding coal, provided you believe anything DC has to say these days. I'm long of ANR from 15, along with several other coal, natural gas, and alternative plays which use the two efficiently and with an eye to the future --- both in Canada and the USA.

Beware of the geo-political climate. You're not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy. Any disruption and oil goes to 100 a barrel and higher, which is hopefully a dollar denomination.

  • TIM Sentiment Report: Brokers More Bullish [View article]
Averaging down at 24.50, which may be the sucker play. Owned the stock and the preferred, made money on both --- the return trip is proving to be a bit bumpier. That said, I still believe that natural gas is underpriced and the future. CHK is one of the best in the space.

QTWW continues to interest me. The designer of Fisker Automotive was also the designer for the Austin Martin. Electric car + Austin Martin? Okay. Bought a ton of shares at 1.13 today, averaging up. All I want to do is make enough to buy one of the cars. If you haven't checked it out, it's one sweet looking "green" ride.

  • Thursday Options Update: XRT, CVS, STT & PFE [View article]
Earnings report was solid, news was disappointing. Still, it wasn't that disappointing and at under 28 it provided an interesting buying opportunity and a nice trade. Took a bit of profit, but held most of the position. CVS is a solid company.

Sellers and lenders continue to drink the Kool-Aid hoping the problem will go away, while it gets worse. I think the estimate on the downside is low.

  • The Bad Cs of Credit [View article]
Goldman Sachs used TARP to put wipe out their competition, which was obviously beneficial based on the proposed bonus payments for 2009. Now it appears that GS peddled more than 40 billion dollars that were promoted as triple-A rated investments that were really closer to junk. So they bet on a meltdown and won big, then lined up at the government trough and fed with the rest of the pigs.

The American taxpayer bailed out these institutions. In return they horded our money, raised interest rates, cut credit lines, installed outrageous penalties, and generally profited from cheap money while Americans lost their jobs and their homes.

Now they expect people to stand by and watch them get paid millions in bonus money while the country is still reeling? Let them use the money to help fix the problems that were created and start putting these criminals behind bars. At some point, enough is enough.

PCX reported strong earnings, which would lead me to believe that ANR is a strong buy under 36 --- they report on November 2 and we'll get to test the theory.
