You have a good point. Sometimes the proper action on an investment is to do nothing. Often that is the hardest one to do.

I've owned OXY for years and been very happy with it. I got turned on to it by noticing that it is widely held in some of your big money trust fund (think Rockefeller, Carnegie, ect), and has been for decades. I was told if you want to be rich, then do what they do.

  • Do You Know The Best Investment For Income Growth? [View article]
You have some pretty good points my friend. The stocks I tend to trust the most are the ones that made it through this Great Recession and kept on raising their dividends. Like JNJ, GPC, KO, MKC and others. They proved under fire they could survive and even thrive. Looks like to me you are right on too.

Great article! Very in-depth and well-though out. There is a group in St. Louis called Kennedy Capital Management that holds this stock too. They are a pretty savvy bunch and they brought my attention to it. I have even traded it a few times. I agree that it is worth holding and I am doing so. Thanks again for such a well-written article.

  • Unplanned Early Retirement, Part 7 - USA Industrials (Continued) [View article]
It has been my advice to people I know, family & friends, to get financially educated (not taught in schools). Next is to strive as best you can to become financially independent. I got the axe some years back at the age of 43. It was a complete shock. I was lucky that I was back to work and making the same income 9 weeks later. I save the remainder of my severance package and invested it. I educated myself financially, invested as wisely as I knew how. I was driven to not let this happen to me again. I was successful and retired early. I have been where you are and it's not fun. I wish all of you luck in this tough new world.

They are in every little rural town in the southeast. What a footprint! With a stock like this it is foolish to fool with bonds I think.

  • What Does EIA Monterey Shale Downgrade Mean To The Energy Industry? [View article]
As far as "green energy" goes, hope and positive thinking will not generate electricity. They have a long ways to go to prove themselves a serious contender with oil, nuclear & coal. Without big tax breaks they are toast. Twenty years from now as the technology becomes stronger and cheaper they may very well get a shot at the title.

Meanwhile I will continue to hold OXY as I have for years now and smile all the way to the bank.

  • Genuine Parts: Increasing Dividends For 58 Consecutive Years [View article]
NAPA stores have a huge footprint. Every little town in rural America has one it seems. I had no trouble getting obscure parts for my antique tractor and they have top-quality parts. They have a great moat in rural America because you see little in the way of competition there.
