  • The U.S. Retirement Crisis: Essential Reading And Resources [View article]
I have a nice and early retirement because I planned for it 30 years ago. I invested carefully and consistantly. I learned constantly and applied that learning. I reviewed my investments carefully and regularly, bought and sold prudently. I managed my debt carefully. Over time I built a great portfolio and learned from my mistakes. Most importantly I relied on only myself to have what I needed to make it happen. I learned early that your employer and the government are not interested in your success so I did not factor them in.

I recommend that you always keep that in mind and it can happen for anyone out there if you put your mind to it.

  • How To Generate Energy Dividends Despite The 'Peak Oil' Nonsense [View article]
I put "peak oil" in the same catagory as "global warming". Both are over hyped. There is plenty of oil and oil were don't even know about yet. As far as warming is concerned, it was warmer during the "dark ages" than it is now. There have been warming and cooling cycles for eons. Where I live we have had record cold temps this spring. Don't insult me by saying "global warming" caused that.

  • Why Do I Analyze Dividend Stocks That Are Not Buys? [View article]
In your dealings with stocks, date them, never marry them. It's OK to date them for a very long time as long as they are a suitable partner in your portfolio.

  • The Peter Lynch Approach To Dividend Cuts [View article]
All I have to do is hear whisperings or rumors of a dividend cut and I am gone. It served me well with VLO, GE & FTR. I learned it after getting a haircut from BAC.

  • Occidental Petroleum: Dividend Stock Analysis [View article]
OXY is the only stock I ever bought without researching it fully. Much of America's "old money" and their trust funds have owned it for decades. At $50 per share in '09 how could I resist? I have continually added to my position on big dips and never regretted owning it. Thanks for a great article.

  • The Coming Decade Of Stocks, Part 2 [View article]
It is interesting to note that Bill Clinton was so busy "legacy building" at the end of his second term that he did not allow Gore much time on the stage. That might have cost him the 2000 election.
