  • Why Apple Is Worth $80 [View article]
    A waste of time. All of the traditional analytical tools and models are out the window right now. Two main factors regarding AAPL: government funny money entering the market in grotesque size, sending a market signal that none of the old models can correctly predict. Secondly, the Apple fan-boy effect: the stock being driven purely by sentiment, fueled by media hype and coolness factor.
    The stock could be $50 or it could be $300, with good arguments either way.

  • Six Things to Learn from the Financial Crisis  [View article]
    Lesson one: don't invest in something yu don't understand. Bank balance sheets fall into that category, along with CMOs;
    2. Don't fight the Fed;
    3. The trend is your friend to the end;
    4. "markets can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent"

  • A Jobs-less Apple Would Not Need Google [View article]
    "Microsoft continues to try and fail at being both a tech company and a software company"

    Hello?

    I can think of a few thousand software and tech companies that would envy the revenue stream of this "failure" company...

  • iPhone Undermining Microsoft in Enterprise? [View article]
    Apple is taking a page out of Blackberry's book. Just get a device execs like in their hands and enterprise IT will have to respond. Microsoft better get their skates on and the new phone OS has a lot of catching up to do...My suggestion is to put the ptototype into some users hands and ask them for feedback. What a concept!

  • FCC Takes On Apple and AT&T over Google Voice Rejection [View article]
    When Microsoft did this, they were forced to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in fines by the DOJ and EU. And that was for the heinous crime of bundling IE and Media Player with the OS. Apple actions are potentially much more damaging to consumers IMO. Who cares if you have to click one additional time to get your browser or media player? But this is actual restraint of trade.

  • I Quit the iPhone [View article]
    AAPL should be very proud. The faithful toe the company line and will trash anyone who threatens their fruit-centered reality. Arrington wrote a reasonable article and gets slammed for it. Amazing.

  • Microsoft Needs Some New Ideas [View article]
    Lots of experts chiming in here, I especially like the guy named "i sell apple"
    Nobody seems to explain the 95% share they have in desktop operating systems; or to present any credible competitive threat to that franchise. The Google fanboys should ask why GOOG decided to create Chrome rather than support one of the Linux distros: oh, wait, maybe they are a little bit evil (or predatory) after all.
    Neither GOOG nor AAPL are anywhere to be found in the enterprise, which is where most computing dollars are spent.
    Microsoft's problem is they try to fight on too many fronts. Another few quarters of titanic losses in Search and maybe they will change course...

  • Five Predictions for This Market [View article]
    This article is nothing but Republican puffery and apologist reasoning. Obama has been in office 6 weeks and the economy today is somehow his fault? How is it that Repubs are so determined not to look in the mirror and honestly take some blame. Blame for letting Phil Gramm run roughshod over the CFTC. Blame for letting Dick Cheney suggest "deficits don't matter". Blame for letting bank lobyists dismantle virtually all regulatory oversight (nevermind those asleep at the switch at the SEC...or those aleep at the switch for the 9/11 warnings, which didn't exactly help.)
    No, instead, we get Obama bashers. It's pathological.

  • Microsoft's New Mobile OS Takes Cues from iPhone [View article]
    Gosh, Microsoft, what a stupid company, all they do is copy what other people do. Any company like that can't possibly do well. Must be a small startup that is about to go under....oh....wait......

  • Zune To Be Forgotten [View article]
    If MSFT had launched something like iTunes (totally closed proprietary format) they would have been crucified by the anti-trust gang and by the media. Apple does it and gets a free pass. Just like GOOG, which is more invasive of privacy than MSFT ever was, but oooh, just say "don't be evil..." and the sheeple will roll over
