  • Linn Energy: Is This The Bottom? [View article]
I would think that the first we will hear is on May 1st when they report on the quarter. If something material were to happen with the holdings being considered for sale/swap/ etc then they might be required to report before May 1st. So the focus is on DCF, production, any adjustment to guidance and what kind of spin we hear. A LNCO stock price that is bouncing around 40% below its 52 week high and only 17% above it 52 week low has got to be a concern when it comes to putting together deals involving their trading currency and expecting them to be accretive. As others have pointed out a sale or positive disposition of the Midland Basin properties and a positive impact on DCF could have a very significant impact on the stock price very quickly.

  • You Can Afford To Protect Against Bear Markets [View article]
Brian, Thanks for putting this together. I think, for many of us, it would be helpful to point to a site or a fairly easy way for us to see these indicators grouped together. Any suggestions other than the individual indicators themselves?

  • Linn Energy Just Can't Catch A Break [View article]
rlp, I had the same thought this week. Nothing to base it on but with the current hits to the stock price and nothing from the company I wondered if the board at the meeting this month when the dividend for the next three months is set, if they might not be looking at an increase. As you say....we will see.

Edit to my post. I found the explanation of the entry on line 10 of the 4797. It is ordinary gain and unfortunately I had entered it correctly from the supplemental page so no reduction in taxes :-(

help me a little more on this. I am working on my K-1s today on Turbo Tax. I do not import info from my brokerage so do enter all the info myself avoiding the duplication problem that many have. I used the step by step process in TT and they did ask questions that the info was mostly available on the K-1 with a little looking. On the supplemental sheet I did not find a blank page but there were questions that included some of that info.

A blank K-1 would have been much easier. How did you navigate to blank K-1? That would be much easier as would the supplemental page for the sales. I did sell all my MLPs and noted so on the form so am getting that right.

I am still wrestling with a number that TT picked up somewhere and added to my tax info on form 4797 in Part II item 10 and titled it: from K-1. That was it. I had done two K-1s and both were titled. I can not find the numbers that add up to this item and it is adding several thousand dollars to my 1040 total. Anyway a challenge. If you have a thoughts or can send me to the bland forms please share.

  • Retirement Strategy: The ETF-Only Portfolio Versus Buy-The-Dips Portfolio, Game On! [View article]
Nice job Regarded. My core portfolio is mostly Vanguard ETFs. I am set up with equal dollar weighting for each sector, large cap, mid cap, small cap, emerging market, health care, real estate, world ex us large and also small, etc. I rebalance twice a year back to an equal dollar weighting. I do not reinvest dividends but use them when I rebalance. Also keeping cash and that is what I use though I could sell winners and bring up the laggards. So I think you are moving in the right direction and impressed you moved so quickly. You have the knack that other SA authors should follow in that you do a good job of finding a balance when responding to your audience and as you write your articles so that folks don't get into these never ending battles of nuances, technical this is right no this is right, etc. Keep it up. We love you. In fact I am going to sign up for Team Alpha.

  • Linn Energy: Ready To Pop After Jim Cramer Groupies Have Been Repelled? [View article]
Not sure I would give the Cramer followers as much credit for the down draft as the article gives them. This article posted on Yahoo by OptionMonster shows that there has been a strong up tic in shorting activity and making good money as well. Hopefully this link is a working one.
I would also question the last conclusion about not worrying about a reduction in the payout. I believe that should that occur both Line/Lnco would take major hits. A lot of folks who have been in these two since the 40's would probably be out of patience and feel pretty badly burned.
I am long LNCO and would agree with some of the other points and do feel that an increase in the distribution/dividend is a ways off. I also believe management is strong and their plans for growth are sound. Of course, pulling it all off is key.

  • Jim Cramer Is Wrong About Linn Energy [View article]
I need to check your most recent articles but have you written anymore on Line/Lnco? There is a current article I saw on yahoo this morning that I think hits it on the head. It was put out by optionMONSTER(no I am not a trader nor do I work for these folks) and spelled out the current short attack and how it is working. Working well it seems. I would post the link but can't figure out how to do it so go to LNCO on yahoo and you will see the link to the article at 6:45 this morning under Headlines.
