Automaker Rebadging Revisited [view article]
The premise is soooooo stupid !!! Haven't you heard of the "Internet"? Every car website shows badge engineering within a company and badge engineering between companies ( see Matrix and Vibe). Have your people run out of ideas? Subaru is a Northeast US brand. It has little traction in the marketplace other than quirky 4x4's. At GM, it is a process getting the buyers back. Probably slower than desired, but check the Malibu's sales. They selling everything they can produce. Aug 17 11:13 AMGM, Ford: Big Mistakes Keep Piling Up [view article]
Any writer who lumps GM in with Ford and Chrysler is an idiot !!!! It's like comparing themselves to someone who has a brain. GM may be reeling, but they are in a far better position than the other two. Ford has hocked the "Blue Oval" logo to the banks. Chrysler is totally clueless. If Cerebus had talked to a " car guy" bbefore they bought Chrysler and 51% of GMAC, they would have told them to leave the money in their piggybank. GM will survive ( I'm in the know) but the other two are shaky, at best. Likely Ford will make the cut. Is that Fiat or Nissan I hear knocking at Chrysler's door? Aug 16 06:18 PMFord's Financial Services Business About to Enter the Red [view article]
Even if Kerkorian gets control of Ford, what the hell is he going to do with the debt. The whole company is owned by the banks, including the Blue Oval. He must need a big tax loss. Jul 20 04:07 PMFord's Financial Services Business About to Enter the Red [view article]
You have not mentioned another area where FMCC is going to lose a bundle. They have a huge lease portfolio full of trucks and SUV's coming off lease in the next two years. With the switch to cars, each vehicle can represent a $3-6000 loss at the wholesale auctions. Likely no insurance to cover. This is the stuff that can put them into bankruptcy. GM doesn't have anywhere near this problem, as they are not as heavy into leasing. Plus Cerebus (those brilliant auto guys) have 51% of that loss. I always find it amazing that the finance guys never ask the auto people about the underlying grief. Anybody in auto retail could tell you this is a bomb that is already exploding. There is a LOT of IF's in that scenario. Drivers don't drive slow enough to take advantage of better gas mileage. Over 65 MPH, the economies of good MPG get thrown out the window. Think about that the next time you are on the highway. Jul 16 08:21 AMGM Goes Lean to Stay Ahead of Toyota [view article]
2 major thing to focus on with GM. First, the overseas business. It's going gangbusters and trading in strong currencies. 60% of their business is overseas. And second, they are selling their high MPG vehicles like hotcakes. they have redirested all their high MPG vehicles to the US and will be leading the industry within a year. The difference in this company is that they use to react to issues in years. Now they react in WEEKS! This is the new GM. Only the idiot analysts look at the company's leadership as if it was the old days. Buy now and make money. Jul 16 08:17 AMGeneral Motors: General Malaise [view article]
When does this stupidity end? GM has a very bright future. First look at the overseas business. It's booming!!!! Next, look at how quickly this company is reacting to the current dramatic change in the market. As a veteran of 30 years in this industry, GM used to take YEARS to react. Now they can change within weeks. And PLEASE stop lumping GM and Ford together. The situations are completely different. FORD has put up the entire company including the Blue Oval as collateral on its loans!!!! GM will survive and eventually prosper. Ford and Chrysler are quite a different story. Why don't you write about Toyota and theirTundra-Texas factory fiasco. How about how much the Europeans are losing money on their American sales due to the crappy dollar? If you went out into the marketplace and compared the quality of the various vehicles, you would have a very different tune. Try the Peter Lynch theory of actually getting out of the ivory tower and going among the masses. It will open your eyes!!! Jul 09 08:53 AM
GM and Ford: Still Easy Shorts [view article]
Putting Ford and GM in the same category is insane !!! They are two totally seperate situations. GM has become a faster moving, far more adaptive company then in the past. It is making billions in the BRIC countries and is working quickly on a NA turnaround. Ford, on the other hand, has hocked everything to the banks, including the blue Ford oval. Ford 's problems are similar to Chrysler, not GM.Their cash till is starting to run dry. Do better homework. Jun 22 09:35 AMIs the Chevy Cobalt as Good as a Hybrid? [view article]
The Cobalt is a well built compact car with plenty of room. Using rental cars for a comparison is not fair because of their lack of servicing and TLC by the renters. Jun 20 01:45 PMGM's Last Fatal Mistake [view article]
GMAC's lease portfolio is much smaller than its competitors. the GM dealers have been complaining for years about GMAC's lack of a lease program. the ones in real hot water is Ford, Nissan, Chrysler, and Toyota. Honda is okay because of its lack of trucks Jun 18 11:28 PM
