Observations on the Total U.S. Debt [View article]
Today"s World: Islam is a peaceful religion.oh sure there are a few fundamentalists but by and large the man in the street doesn't support them. The talk about Holy War,fatah stoning women to death is past history and should not be relevant to the now.Oh the guy who killed his girl friends baby by swinging the baby and smashing it's head? He was honest with the Judge and forthrightly said he had made a few bad choices.Let's talk about the real villans--the rich, the guy with a million dollars locked away not paying his fair share. You say there are law firms paying more than $100,000 to new graduates? What's that got to do with anything? You say the old guy with the million is hard put to find a safe way to make 6% on his money? You expect me to weep for those rich speculators. You say 6% would give him $60,000 a year or about two thirds of the salary of a first year lawyer what'ts that supposed to mean..Oh you say the rich guy spent a long time working and worrying knew many sleepness nights to end up with that much .dough..Oh the pity of it! What about the old expense account the tax loopholes the insider money. Yes his day is over and about time! Those guys at the top have been there too long lording over the rest of us but this is over, this is the new America,Hey don't walk away I'm not through yet.Jerk! You know I think there were tears in his eyes,For his Country? Hell no probably another rich guy who knows his day is over.
Five Leadership Lessons From Obama's First Month [View article]
On the most vital point in evaluating Obama's early leadership you blew it badly. In trying to link presidential leadership with that of corporations .You dislayed a complete misunderstanding of the demands on one who bears the awesome responsibilities of leading a nation. we are in a crisis of confidnce..Every individual who has an inch of paper or a minute of air time is emphasizing gloom and predicting disaster and corporate leadership is either joinining in the chorus or is bunkered down and mute. The people had no place to turn for encouragement as President Obama was over singing in the national dirge until hissomewhat lighter note in the last message to Congress.Obama is not the CEO of America Inc.he is the leader of a great nation ,a troubled nation at the moment ,but still the richest and most powerful on earth,FDR took office during the greatest depression ever and Winston Churchill saw his armies driven from Europe at Dunkirque in one of the greatest retreats in military history,These two great historical figures could have addresed their people with an inventory of woes but instead in words of magnificent power they uplifted their people and in the darkest hours of two nations gave those people hope and inspiration and a conviction of future victory. That is Presidential leadership and Obama has yet to achieve it. For the good of the whole country and it's people I pray he finds within himself the abilities to so lead.
Citi Gets a Good Deal; Ken Lewis Overpaid [View article]
You can not analyze BAC deals if you do not factor in the ego of Lewis for which there is no known guide. He is building a monument. We shareholders will either reap an enormous profit or go broke if we stay the course.I'm staying. But scared.Bad.
The New York Times: Living in Denial [View article]
the Times once rightly considered Americas greatest paper lost it's soul when it lost it'objectivity and the news became a mean spirited and sometimes dishonest extension of the editorial page. Bad product= bad buisness.Sic transit---
Is There Any Hope for the Big Three Auto Makers? [View article]
The capacity of the auto industry made "the great arsenal of democracy" possible but in this dangerous world could we survive another war if we lose that capacity. Are we at a time when we should consider the use of National capital in vital but crippled defence industries.Even as I write DRS is being bought by a company one third owned by the state of Italy so state investment is not exactly a wild idea.Listen to those who say there will never be another "big" war at your peril. This old B17 bombardier was comfortable knowing that every thing we used was home made in those long ago days.
Re BAC don't know closing price but at mid-day based on last sale BAC dividend was 9.4% and the market price was still falling.Within the last 10 days or so a senior officer volunteered that the dividend was "safe" at least to the next declaration. If he is right--and he had better be or there will be 10,000 more or less shareholder suits filed--then the stock is wildly undervalued. Is the Counrty Wide aquisition the problem that causes the insane inbalance between market price and dividend rate?If--IF--managemen... appraisal of the deal is right the aquisition is a coup and will enormously add to the bank's customer base and to it's profits and a contrary market view will just be another example of how hysteria can distort reason.I have absolutely no qualifications to predict the market nor to give investment advice, that said I think BAC may well be an historic buy.Yes I do own a substantial amount of BAC and have for years and will continue to be a holder with no present intention to sell. This baby is either going to make me cry or make me rich.
