The same logic applies to AMAT. They are investing a lot of resources in their solar business. They went from not being in the solar sector in 2005 to being the #1 equipment supplier last year. The investment may or may not pay off in terms of profits down the road, but strategic investment is different than "destroying wealth."
Thin film is much more than just CIGS/CIS which is unproven in production as of yet. FSLR uses CdTe not CIGS. a-Si is a third important technology. There are more but that is the big three in my opinion.

You all just need to chill out. Everytime someone writes anything bearish about any solar stock, all the personal attacks begin. If you don't agree then state your rationale instead of attacking the author and seeking alpha. All the personal attacks make me think the bears are on to something.

Re: design wins. XLNX claims they are dominating design wins at 65nm since ALTR was late to the node. It is interesting that you are not seeing this. ALTR has since announced 40nm products, and claim they will ship engineering samples at the end of 2008. I agree--both companies emphasize the competition between PLD and ASIC and downplay the competition between XLNX and ALTR.
