  • Sears Has Stopped Shrinking But Is This Really Good News? [View article]
At least spell his name right - it's LamPert, not LamBert.

  • The Latest Sears Short Squeeze Flies In The Face Of Logic [View article]
fxfx, then Lampert should have shut down stores 10 years ago, instead of "waiting to see if they could turn a profit." No CAPEX, no changes, yet he suddenly expected a store that was losing money for many years to suddenly turn a profit.

  • Update: Sears Holdings Provides Q3 2014 Update And Explores REIT Transaction [View article]
"if the real estate is of such remarkable value, where's all the demand for it? REITs weren't falling all over each other for a piece of this real estate?"

Maybe want to pay attention to SPG and GGP conference calls where they mention their high affinity for Sears real estate.

  • Sears: The Death Spiral Continues [View article]
I'm not sure where to begin - was the author drunk when he published this article? Maybe the page views he garnered from this piece can pay for another beer.

Moving on...Sears is closing over 200 stores this year. Why? Because they are unprofitable and have been that way for many years.

The media has been accusing him of crimping the company for a long time. Ironically, he admitted this year that he should've closed many stores down 10 years ago, but he let them run to see if they could turn a profit. However, the catch 22 is why in the world he expected them to suddenly turn a profit when he was being stingy on CAPEX. If that was his plan all along, he should've been shutting down stores way earlier.

If people want this beloved "storied American icon" to stay alive, it needs to shrink to profitability. That's what Lampert is now doing. With the optionality of leveraging the real estate and becoming a landlord to other companies.

All these years, it was a lot of talk, not much walk. I finally see him taking action.

Rube, I would generally not try and make predictions like that. SHLD can keep playing musical chairs for a lot longer lol....

Rights are counted as distributions, so I believe MYourman is correct...you had to buy the stock on Monday in order to be on the record date today.

rube, SPE is another investment partnership, one of the 6 or 7 that ESL manages. Lampert would be the CEO of the general partner, while the investors would be the limited partners.

Rube, the Bay Harbor, FL address is where ESL's office is located. That's why all the SEC filings list that.

Paulo, I understand your case against Amazon, but I don't think it has anything to do with money printing. It had to do with investors putting all their faith in Amazon's top line and that all the spending Bezos was doing would lead to more growth.

Using that logic, people should have said Facebook being valued any higher than $18 (it's post IPO low) was all because of Fed printing.

I disagree that the reason so many stocks have gone up is because of Fed printing; I would however agree that lower interest rates led to quite a few benefits for corporate American balance sheets, which were then reflected on the share prices. But it's not like the Fed suddenly injecting a lot of liquidity suddenly made stocks soar (which is not the case....on a pure multiple basis, by a lot of different measures, stocks range from moderately valued to overvalued, but nothing is at a crazy valuation).

With that being said, I would not buy Amazon at today's price. If it drops another $100, i might pay attention.

  • Sears Holdings Poised To Rise Further [View article]
Mark, the entire issue here is how fast they can do these re-leasings, while the retail is losing over a $1B/year. That's an enormous problem for them; they need to stem the retail losses ASAP.

Rube, I'm impressed by how fast you find these new SEC filings. I checked under RBS Partners, which is where ESL's 13F is filed, but that had nothing. Looks like this was filed under SHLD.
