  • Time to Move Back into Defensive Stocks Like Utilities? [View article]
I see utilities as a good defensive play but their dividends will surely lag the inflation figures. Truth is that the large central generating utilities should go out of business with their megga coal plants of moderate efficiency. The size= efficiency equation is history and a larger number of smaller local plants would encourage co-generation as well as get rid of the expensive, inefficient and fault prone transmission lines.

It would do great damage to the insurance co's , of course, who hold the paper on these antique generators but Hey, what's another bail out. The printing presses are now warmed up.

Non the less the utilities are a reasonable defense for the investor in US securities.

  • Cramer's Stop Trading! The One Oil Stock That Hasn't Rallied Yet (6/10/09) [View article]
The outstanding debt is not really being addressed so this economic downturn has a long way to slide.

The job market will continue to fall well through next year and thus increase the collapse of bundled credit card debt, mortgages and of course the Alternate A's and student loan defaults will continue to rise if not spike.

Inflation? with medical costs, tuitions and food and rental rates on the inevitable rise it will be a factor that the Fed will be afraid to address in any real sense.

Return to 2004? - forget it. We will have to adopt a new metric for success. Meanwhile the Government has raped and denuded "ol Aunt Mini to fatten the Wall Street flim flammers who are too important and generous in contributions to fail.

We need a revolution in metrics and governing.

Glad to see that Dominion held it's rights to the Eastern Overthrust in this region with all of the sub basement geopressured gas that lies there.

This latter is the real big long term play.
