  • The Mac vs. PC Debate Was Never Clearer [View article]
Here's the point you fail to understand. Instead of paying Apple 3,000 for a $1500 computer, go buy an equivalent $1500 computer and pony up $250 for OSX. You have the same as an apple for $1250 less.

This is the difference between PC and MAC users. MAC users are stupid and lazy while high end PC users are the kids making billions on new internet and technology startups

The study on the 91% compares sales at US retail storefronts.

The OP and the author of the study make the fundemental flaw in the analysis of this fact. High-end PC buyers don't shop at best buy. They don't.

High end pc buyers shop for components, and build the systems themselves. A few will buy from alienware (dell) or a few highend models from HP or others, but for the most part, sales of high end PC's just are not storefront driven

I can build an exactly comparable pc system for under $1300 that Apple sells for $2499. That's all markup for nothing more than marketing. Great for APPLE, bad for the consumer that buys that MAC.

So when you trumpet that MAC is great because of the brand image, be aware that that is all it is. The machine itself is nothing special.

  • Mac Pricing: Value Is in the Eye of the Buyer [View article]
Funny all the PC bashing. What's apples marketshare? How many fortune 1000 companies have an installed mac base? What's that, none? What was the last game developed for the MAC? I certainly don't know, but I'm pretty sure that there hasn't been a game built for the mac in quite a long time.

Not everyone is an idiotic fool that needs everything spoon fed to them. There are actually a lot of us geeks out there, that enjoy nothing more than putting together great PC builds. Can't do that with Apple. And by the way, when you actually know something about PC's and OS's, you can build your own system that is as fast, if not faster than anything Apple will build for you for at a minimum of 60% less than what they will charge you. And considering how much Apple charges, that is a lot of money.

  • Points Off for Windows? Assailing the 'Macs Are More Expensive' Assumption [View article]
What's the point? That more Apple builds a better expensive PC? Great - you do realize that the bulk of sales by HP and Dell, on the PC side are cheap laptops and desktops? How many Mac models are there at $400 price point? That would be none. When an IT Director needs to roll out 2,000 new desktops to the drones, you think he tells his managers to go spec $1500 machines? Nope, they go to dell and HP and spec $400 machines.

    In addition

I can go buy the PC components and build an equivalent machine for approx half what HP and Dell charge. Can I do that with a Mac?

Nope, can't. So in reality for the savvy buyer, I can still pay less than half for a PC that I can for a Mac.

Go look to the gaming world - where the best computer minds are - and ask how many run macs - the answer will be pretty much none of them.

When I was a kid back in the late 70's my first machine was an Apple II. In 1984 I got a Mac. In college I used an upgraded Mac Plus. Upon leaving college I never used a mac again. There was a reason for that

Apple will do just fine building machines for lazy people who are willing to spend more money for ease of use. They will never penetrate the mass market because they can't match the price points. Thats not a bad thing, as the mass market cares little for look and feel and only cares for price point.

However, don't try to build an investment thesis thinking that somehow mac will someday gain more than that 5-7% marketshare. That's the part of the world willing to pay a premium for a premium product (that has only 3% of the software base). No more no less
