....there's an easy solution to such skepticism...there are now several websites where you can actually manage a hypothetical portfolio and record trades for everyone to see...one example I can think of is "covestor.com"...that's the surest way to trim doubt and collect true believers...but, oddly enough, hardly anyone selling investment advice ever do that...I wonder why....

...it amazes me that this guy gets any attention at all...first, correctly predicting a single lightning strike does not provide you with ANY information about the probability of doing it a second time...by his own admission, Nassim is betting on lightning strikes....anybody want to invest in options on the next lightning strike?...and what is Nassim's advice?...put 90% of your money in cash and 10% in highly speculative instruments like options or in venture capital...you don't need a Ph.D. to debunk that argument second...all you need is a chart of the S&P 500 for 50 or 60 years...now, pick a spot -- say, 1980...calculate the effects of inflation on your cash and "guesstimate" how much you might have earned from your "speculations"...of course, you HAVE to "guesstimate" since there's no way of predicting whether you might find a "black swan"...well, hell, why not just take that 10% and just head off to Vegas?!...at least then you have a little fun with your bets!...on the other hand, had you bought the S&P in 1980 you would have paid around $100...even with the crash, it's now worth around $900...and that's not including whatever dividends you collected along the way...to me the choice between listening to some megalomaniacal goofball ranting about black swans and pursuing old-fashioned rational long term strategies seems pretty obvious...and, by the way, I do mean "goofball" -- serious "goofball"...read anything he's written and then go look up the DSM IV-TR criteria for diagnosis of a narcissistic personality disorder and see if you don't agree that Nassim qualifies as a "poster child" for it...and this is someone whose advice anyone is supposed to take seriously?...sorry, don't think so.
