  • Ten Reasons Why the Kindle Is Toast [View article]
...an addendum -- I just saw this:

"Even great books can be overlooked. Amazon customers raved over “Legacy,” a self-published novel by 16-year-old Cayla Kluver, with customer review titles such as “loved it, loved it,” “rich lyrical tapestry and story” and “breathtaking in scope and execution!” Despite winning several prizes from literary groups and accolades like this from readers, Kluver’s debut novel achieved only modest sales. Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN - News) today announced a new program, “AmazonEncore,” to help readers discover exceptional books from emerging authors, such as the program’s first book, “Legacy.”"

...this likely would not have happened were it not the low overhead associated with offering it via a Kindle!...and guess what!...it means MORE CUSTOMERS!...how about that!...isn't that great, Robin?!...the quote came from:

  • Ten Reasons Why the Kindle Is Toast [View article]
....I'm tempted to write "10 Reasons Why Robin Bloor is a Moron" but I'll pass since I'm sure nobody reslly cares...I've responded to the same Kindle arguments over and over -- here are the links to just a few:

    seekingalpha.com/user/...

    seekingalpha.com/user/...

    seekingalpha.com/user/...

    seekingalpha.com/user/...

...and as I recall all the same arguments were used PREVIOUSLY with the introduction of the original Kindle...yet that has device has FAR EXCEEDED expectations -- and Amazon hasn't even begun marketing it outside the U.S.!...and I fail to understand WHY the author persists in bashing Kindle?...it almost sounds like he suffers from "Kindle envy"...does it hurt his feelings that Amazon has taken something that he has a low opinion of and made it extremely successful?...I would suggest the author give Amazon a year or two and let's see how the larger Kindle progresses...I'm quite confident Amazon will confirm the opinion I expressed in my first sentence.

  • Amazon's New Kindle-DX: $489 for an E-Reader? [View article]
...I am soooo tired of reading dimwitted, shortsighted, narrowminded criticisms of Kindle...but it's made worse by the fact the authors always resort to the same inane arguments...regardless, this is simply a copy of one of my responses to some other similar post:

"gag!...it is SO annoying to read criticism from people when they clearly know NOTHING about the device!...READ the description and THEN lodge your criticisms:

    www.amazon.com/Kindle-...

    ...note what it says:

"By using the QWERTY keyboard, you can add annotations to text, just like you might write in the margins of a book. And because it is digital, you can edit, delete, and export your notes. Using the new 5-way controller, you can highlight and clip key passages and bookmark pages for future use. You'll never need to bookmark your last place in the book, because Kindle remembers for you and always opens to the last page you read."

...and if you want to find something all you need to do is SEARCH for it:

"Kindle makes it easy to search within a book, across your library, in the Kindle Store, or even the Web. To use the Search feature, simply type in a word or phrase you're looking for, and Kindle finds every instance in your book or across your Kindle library. Looking for the first reference of a character in your book? Simply type in the name and search. You can extend your search to the Kindle Store to find related titles you may be interested in. Explore even further by searching Wikipedia and the Web."

...can a hard copy book do that?...geez, what is it about Kindle that renders people so they can't look past their own narrow minds?"

...and did I mention that Kindle books are about hald the cost of hard copies?...did I mention the extraordinarily environmental impact of electronic books versus hard copies?...MOST IMPORTANT -- go to the website and study ALL of the features and then TRY to apply just a LITTLE creativity to come up with the WEALTH of possibilities a Kindle would offer a student...when I think back to my college days, I literally could spend all day writing about what I COULD have accomplished if the thing had been available then!...

  • Will Kindle Success Come at Amazon's Expense?  [View article]
...I agree with your last line wholeheartedly...what I wish the media and Amazon would discuss more are the "green" qualities of Kindle...I can only imagine how many acres of trees will be spared, how much less of pollution paper and ink manufacturers will spew into our rivers and atmosphere, how many fewer gallons of fuel will be needed to deliver hard copy books, and how much less packaging garbage there will be to dispose of...I hope someone eventually will do a study and come up with the numbers...I think everyone will be amazed.

  • Speculating on the Emergence of an iConsole [View article]
...another game console?...you're joking, right?...Nintendo is already sweating Wii's loss of luster...and as I recall Sony doesn't make much off of PSP...and Microsoft's profit margin I don't know...but still, why on earth would Apple want to throw down against Sony and Microsoft?...I don't see the reward as comensurate with the risk...use the 29 billion either to buy back stock or invest in some area not dominated by 800 pound gorillas.

  • Apple: Steve Jobs Is Fine, and We Still Hate Netbooks [View article]
...I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but Steve Jobs is, in all likelihood, not returning to Apple in June...Mr. Jobs, sad to say, is probably dying...he underwent a Whipple procedure -- a radical, last ditch, procedure considered to be only palliative...in other words, it is highly unlikely that it cured him...

  • Apple's Media Tablet Will Cause the Stock to Rocket [View article]
    ...yeah, right:

"An Apple tablet is on the way according to unreliable, totally anonymous sources..."

...of course, that was written TWO YEARS ago:

    apcmag.com/an_apple_ta...

...and Jobs is working on it while he is at home?...uh, no...Mr. Jobs, sad to say, is probably at home dying...do you know what a Whipple procedure is?...basically, it is a radical procedure considered to be only palliative -- in other words, it is highly unlikely that it cured him...I wouldn't expect him to return in June.

  • Commoditization and the Demise of Customer Support [View article]
...customer service?...when you call for service on an most items all you get is a "talking head" who follows a script and a flowchart...if you reach the end of the flowchart without resolving the problem, my experience has been that the "head" will simply make up whatever is necessary to terminate the conversation -- one guy I talked to actually ended up blaming the problem on an "act of God"!...conveniently, of course, acts of God were not covered under the service agreement!...companies should consider simply providing a disk containing the same script the "head" uses and then opting for a service call if the script fails.

...hilarious that this got 38 positive ratings -- including mine, by the way...frustrating so many seekingalpha posters conveniently leave out such pertinent details.

  • The Short Case for Amazon.com [View article]
...I don't see the sales tax issue as a huge negative...I seriously doubt that very many people shop Amazon as a way of escaping sales tax...I live in Kentucky where sales tax is collected and it doesn't affect my shopping one way or another...I use Amazon because of selection, convenience, quick delivery with savings on shipping using their "prime" program, and customer service...and why would they partner with Netflix?...I'm surprised they haven't blown Netflx out of the market...what little would it take to modify a Kindle to be able to shop for and download movies and music from Amazon?...wouldn't have to be able to play them -- just so you could then transfer them to your home media network....nah -- don't need no stinkin' Netflix.

..."...while AMZN sells at a "nose bleed" 16 times book value..."????...AMZN is basically a service company...I wouldn't expect it to have a high book value...what you are paying a premium for is market dominance, competitive edges, niche services -- e.g. Kindle, Amazon Marketplace, Amazon Prime, self-publishing, etc...personally, I do 80 per cent of my shopping at Amazon and that includes groceries...I suspect at some future point they will basically just own internet commerce.
