...I absolutely agree that for most people the best and cheapest way is simply allocate money according to whatever criteria suits them -- age, risk tolerance, etc -- and then simply divide the money between a broad-based equity and a broad-based bond fund...the next decision is when to rebalance -- monthly, after a certain percentage move?...

....AAAACK!!!...here's PHK getting pumped again!!!...is Pimco paying for pumps these days?!...PHK is a CEF that trades at a SEVENTY TWO per cent PREMIUM to its net asset value!!...it is burdened with something approaching FIFTY per cent leverage!...that has got to be among the WORST values for high-yield CEF's...if you want something for your list how about JGG which yields 10%, trades at a 10% DISCOUNT to NAV, is UNleveraged, and has over 80% of its funds in AAA rated bonds?
