  • Manitowoc Offers Investors Growth at a Discount [View article]
I would have to agree with stvcomment. Your comparisons with Terex could have been much better. While I think that DE, TEX and MTW are all great buys, I definitely like TEX much better. TEX has more product breadth and depth and are not considered just a "crane" company. They also derive approx. 50% of sales from outside the US, are trading at much more of a discount.

  • Why GM Should Embrace Bankruptcy [View article]
Excuse me, I am not a bankruptcy expert.

How would GM filing for bankruptcy affect other competitors, specifically Ford? Would this hurt them, considering that GM would then have an "advantage"?

When in Chapter 11, are union contracts always renegotiated?

If GM files chapter 11 and you are a shareholder, are you always given the opportunity to convert old shares into the reorganized company shares, given they are not cancelled?

The idea of GM spinning off Chevy is very interesting. Would they be able to spin off both Chevy and Cadillac (as stated in a previous comment) and leave the other brands to die?

  • WSJ.com Will Go Free, Eventually [View article]
I hope your are right about the WSJ going free. I live in a small town, so paying almost $100 for a subscription to receive it a day late is not worth it at all. And I am definitely not paying $10 less for just the online version either when I can read basically the same news for free elswhere.

  • Apple Will Flourish With or Without Steve Jobs [View article]
I don't disagree that Apple's stock, once Jobs leaves, will be hit hard. I do disagree, though, with all of you saying that he is the center of the entire Apple universe. Jobs has a reputation for hogging the credit for the products which Apple comes out with, so there is no reliable way to measure how much influence/participatio... he has when it comes to product innovation.

Bill Gates is now retiring. He built up a HUGE empire and was one of the most influential people of the last 10+ years. I don't imagine that MSFT's stock is going to take a huge hit from him leaving. I also don't see Google's stock taking a huge hit if Schmidt leaves google (I could be wrong on that one). A time may come where Jobs just fades into the background and it wont be a huge deal for him to leave, so lets not start panicking now.

fatcat: Please do some research before you start saying things about Jobs's cancer. He had a very rare form of pancreating cancer called islet cell neuroendocrine tumor which is far less aggressive or deadly than other types of pancreatic cancer. He is not going to die within weeks, if he did, Apple's PR team would be in extremely hot water for lying about it.
