Off the Applevine: Netbook Rumors, U2 Defection [View article]
Re: Apple and U2 - Just another "L00k, ME TOO" showing that copying is the sincerest form of flattery. Really, is there no other company with any originality?
Apple's Refreshed Macs an Unlikely Catalyst of Growth - RBC [View article]
I have an iMac and a PC in my office, another iMac at home. I turn on the PC once a week for the one piece of software not available on Mac. I am planning on buying a new Mac Mini in the next week or so. I have plenty of PC's available at garage sales, hardly ever see a Mac. Never had a virus on a Mac, lots of them on PC's. I will happily pay a premium for a Mac, I have three Mac stores in town. PC's? forget it. Cheapscates and the ignorant will buy cheap PC's, and get what they pay for.

The analysts are quick and loud on what Apple "should do", but if they are so smart, why aren't they in the business? Much safer to offer advice when you have no investment to risk.
All this buy-back talk just confirms my suspicion about analyists: They read each others writings and run with them. Apple has not stated, even in jest, that they are even considering a buy-back, the whole idea was brought up by an analyist notorious for her/his lack of knowledge and understanding about Apple. This is almost as funny as the idea Apple should buy Dell, close it down, and give all the money back to the stockholders. Is it any wonder no one takes you seriously?

This clown is an investment advisor. He mentions the fantastic runup AAPL stock has had, but did not participate! All us Apple fanboys that are stockholders must really be a lot smarter than that! Based on his record, would you trust him with any of your money?

TRADERS are nervous. They are looking for immediate action, and ready to leave any second, anxiously reading every dim-witted post or blog. Us INVESTORS, on the other hand, bought way back when it was really cheap, and are in AAPL for the long haul. The MM's run the price up and down, the traders jump in and out, the investors hang it there and get rich!
Online Sales: Poking Holes in the Long Tail Theory [View article]
The local used bookstore is normally successful with obscure items only if it has a browser base big enough to sell them. It is now possible using the internet. Instead of selling only within a small radius, you have everyone in the whole wide world who has a computer as a possible customer. The commonplace "best sellers" are difficult to sell profitably because everyone else has them, and price-cutting is rampant. The obscure has little competition, and therefore more profit potential.

Reading between the lines: Apple is expecting to sell a whole buncha iPhones. Since Apple's guidance is notoriously conservative, they will probably sell a WHOLE BUNCHA MORE iPhones! All Apple's compeditors and falling all over themselves coming out with lame "iPhone-killers-of-the... which will eventually improve the level of quality of phones, but they are still running a couple of years behind, with scant prospects of catching up. Apple is a fast-moving target!
