The State Council's public goal of seeing 5M alternative-energy vehicles produced by 2020, blows away previous estimates and sets the prize high for a company able to knock out a technological breakthrough in the industry. EV-related plays include F,GM, TSLA, NSANY.OB, AVAV, ECTY, GACR.PK, KNDI, HMC, JCI, NRG, ZAAP.OB, VLKAY, and AONE.  [View news story]

  • Shares of Tesla (TSLA +3.1%) shoot higher with traders divided on if a short squeeze is in play or if wild - but lingering - rumors that Apple could be interesting in taking a stake in the automaker is bringing in buyers. Rocco Pendola brings in a dose of common sense to the banter, noting that the company doesn't need to accomplish that much in terms of financial targets to claim success in comparison to giants such as Ford and GM. [View news story]
Tesla built 1 model S per day in June and is scheduled to build 5 per day in July with a parabolic rise to 5000 units by end of year end, then 20000 more next year. Quality control will be an issue for them.

  • Why Selling Tesla Shares Makes Sense As The Model S Is Launched [View article]
For me TSLA is a long term investment, for some very simple reasons. Fuel economy standards are being raised to 55 mpg. This will necessitate more hybrids and electrics in the marketplace. Battery prices are inexorably coming down also. Petroleum fueled vehicles are ripe on the tree and ready to fall Tesla is shaking the tree.

  • Though Tesla Motors (TSLA +4.4%) has never turned a profit, shares have confounded shorts and doubled in the two years since the firm's IPO. This weekend the unbridled enthusiasm over Tesla's ability to target the mass market with its EVs will be tested as drivers and critics get behind the wheel of Model S cars at Tesla retail stores across the country. For enamored buyers, Wells Fargo will provide financing through a special arrangement[View news story]
Tesla needs to be viewed as a superbly styled car, with forward thinking engineering and top notch execution. Watching the Tesla assembly plant videos convinced me of the care put into the manufacturing process. Hopefully they can ramp up production with the same quality control. The next few months will tell if they hit a home run. Everything seems to be in place for it. Good luck!

GM, Ford, Benz, Toyota are all watching closely to see if this car succeeds. If it does they will have their versions out as quickly as possible.

  • Tesla: Model S Launch Marks The Start Of An Empire [View article]
    "by 2024 to 6,000,000-7,000,000 [units]"

Assuming worldwide market, this would imply an acceptance of electrics by a substantial percentage of car buyers. Is that 10% share?

  • Tesla Motors: Automaker Or Graphic Novel? [View article]
Trans-formative in the sense that technologies matured and an old order was surpassed. The public transitioned from horses to automobiles, radio came into the homes of Americans. Aviation industry blossomed. Straight 8 to V8 was not trans-formative but a refinement. ICE technology is very old now the pressure has been building for an alternative or alternatives. Although the US will continue to use petroleum for some time, we will never produce enough to stop importing using ICE alone. Nat gas, hybrids, and electrics are alternatives and supplements. So is horse and buggy but we will not go that way.

  • Tesla Motors: Automaker Or Graphic Novel? [View article]
Lazard Capital & Goldman Sachs recommends Tesla shares a buy. I guess time will tell if you are a naysayer or prescient. I do think the US is in a trans formative period, like the 1920's when new technologies came to the forefront. If that is the case much of your analysis will be obsolete.

  • Next week the rubber meets the road for Tesla Motors (TSLA +0.1%) when the all-electric Model S sedan officially launches. The first batch of Model S vehicles will be from the limited-edition Signature series, boasting a 85 kWh battery capable of 300 miles per gallon. Test drives start this weekend at Tesla's 22 stores, when the question will be finally answered on whether or not the car's performance will match its mystique. [View news story]
I think many people are not discerning the business decision to build high end models to prove the technology to early adopters, with less expensive models to follow. Also battery costs are dropping. Another unknown is the level of electric envy [no gas] in the general public, including those who hate to spend $60. at a gas station to fill up. There are other factors that may help push this vehicle into a new market segment, like pride in American manufacturing and technology, or environmental reasons.

  • Tesla Model S: The Mother Of All Product Launches [View article]
I bought shares of TSLA because of Elon Musk. He is a rare man who can take an idea and make it a reality. For example look at SpaceX. He has just put Boeing and Lockheed on notice with the successful space station shot at 1/3 the cost. This is Howard Hughes Jr. here. The Model S is a styling beauty that could be the 21st century paradigm the world has been waiting for.

  • Abu Dhabi National Energy sells off its stake in Tesla Motors (TSLA -2.1%), according to reports. The state-owned utility company had held close to 7% of Tesla's shares. [View news story]
TSLA is a long term play, 5-10 years at least. Electrics, hybrids, nat gas vehicles will continue the transition away from petroleum based vehicles in the future, it's inevitable. Tesla is successfully demonstrating it's capabilities for this unfolding technological jump. They are showing the majors how it's done.
