  • Yahoo Tries To Catch Up With Its Competition And Earnings Call Content Was Expected [View article]
Why does yahoo not use its position as one of the few true "internet portals" to develop revenue generators, like:

    1) A yahoo online travel agency like Expedia/ Orbitz/ Priceline (there is huge profit margin in this business... and yahoo is in a good position with its web presence to get such a business off the ground fairly quickly).... I think Bidu has recently made a similar move in China.

    2) Revamp yahoo Movie info site... I use to always use Yahoo to check movie ratings info etc ... now I only use IMDB. This could generate increased ad revenue from movie promotion, possibly online movie ticket sales, etc.

    3) Revamp yahoo small business... A feel like lot of people used to use this to register domain names, build websites, etc.

    4) Possibly a shopping portal (small version of Amazon)

and other ideas that do not completely rely on ad revenue.

  • eBay's Paypal Has The Potential To Topple The Bitcoin [View article]
Paypal is much like credit cards when it comes to the fees charged to merchants, they are not able to offer Bitcoins biggest competitive advantage...

    No fee (or substantially less).

For Merchants often dealing with 5-10% margins, cutting out a 2.5 - 3.0% fee (tax essentially) is substantial.

  • How To Play The Alibaba IPO; Yahoo Vs. Softbank Vs. Others [View article]
I think YHOO is the better play as well- I hope MM's buying spree (and future ones) will turn out to be sage investments. I can't get a good read on whether or not she is a savvy CEO/ or how effective yahoo will be in converting the recent acquisitions into a centralized profitable strategy (or for that matter- what that strategy is). But yahoo certainly has the potential and capital to markedly redefine itself... It will all come down to the genius (or lack thereof) of MM and the management team.

Any thoughts on SINA over the next several months & the extend that Weibo IPO will actually end up having? I just bought SINA yesterday at $66, based on them basically being around what seemed to be support level lows. I'm just a bit puzzled why they have $90+ price target and Weibo buzz, yet still near lows?

  • Zohydro's Chances Of Staying On The Market [View article]
I could obviously be totally wrong... But your analysis of the likelihood of FDA actions, etc, leaves me with the impression that you are totally out of tune with both the FDA and the legislative process and realities. (I'm not suggesting that you think this is a foregone conclusion & I know you are likely trying to keep in balanced) ...

but I see virtually no chance of Zy being pulled. (Not trying to come across negative- I realize, many people are going to have differing opinions on this one).
