Sirius XM Available on iPhone: The Wait Is Over [View article]
belbiv, I have a lifetime account and just upgraded my 2nd one to a lifetime account when they increased the fees. The online player is supposed to be included with the lifetime. Both accounts do the same thing ("ready") when I log on. It must have something to do with my laptop. Customer service is not very helpful and the website help section did not help either. If you or someone has any advice or previous experience with this I would appreciate it.

Does anyone know why my online plyaer for Sirius XM keeps saying "ready" and does not play? I have gone to the help page on the website, but it does not resolve the issue. I have contacted customer service a few times and they try to help, but then do not write back. I am overseas, do not have an iphone, and getting a little desperate to listen so I thought I would try on this blog. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.
Why Did Adelstein Reverse His Position on the SIRI-XM Merger? [View article]
Larry Crow, I agree there are industries that need a fair (I do stress the word fair) amount of gov't regulation, but siri/xm are definitely not it. I dont think anyone in power will pay attention to the siri/xm shareholder. They do not need to. The ones in control holding this thing hostage only need to do the right thing. Is that too much to ask. They were appointed to their jobs to do the right thing. Does it really take over 4 months after the DOJ investigated for a year and came to their conclusion to determine whether or not this merger would create a monopoly? I dont think so. Gov't regulation in the credit markets is needed, there need to be stricter rules before these company's are allowed to get themselves into so much trouble and before they collapse sending the economy into a tailspin. Do you really feel the mediums that audio entertainment is delivered needs gov't regulation. Right now, gov't regulation/investigati... and special interests are keeping 2 revenue losing companies from becoming successful or competitive in the market. You said it before, there are definitely more pressing issues. Finally, why is the FCC so hellbent on trying to keep a monopoly from happenning? No one can predict the future. I say let the companies merge and if they become this evil monoploy sucking all $ out of consumers, then break them apart or regulate them. The FCC is definitely not good at reviewing things that are in the present or things that the DOJ has already concluded. Why would they be good at predicting the future?

Guys, I apologize for the long rant. This merger has made me go mental. I am so frustrated at this point. Is there seriously anything we can do. I am willing to spend a couple thousand dollars to get this investigated by an attorney, we can investigate Adelstein, Copps for corruption or stall tactics. How about suing/investigating on the charge of inability to do the job, thus causing millions of losses to the companies and also to the investors. If we all pull together maybe we could at least get them fired.

Larry Crow, those are real issues and no one is taking away from that, but those are completely different issues addressed in and on different mediums. Also, those problems are complex, this is not and the fact the goverment, FCC, NAB are corrupting something so simple in these bad economic times with the above issues you mentioned, makes people almost violent. I have become so angry and distrustful to anything the gov't does now? I for one will never again invest in an emerging company competing against another with market dominance and govt/politcal ties no matter how revolutionary their product is. How willing are any of us to invest in anything the gov't tries to regulate now? This is an issue that effects not only shareholders, but could be a bad indicator of how things in gov't are run for the future. If the gov't abuses their power to keep out competitors with greater technology, quality, efficiency, new technologies, and innovation, to protect one company's market dominance we step closer to a socialist state or dare I say, dictatorship. All innovation and motivation for better products are stalled because nothing will be worth the effort to pursue. If revolutionary products introduced to the market are killed because of gov't incompetence or corruption after all the hard work, sacrifice, investment, and innovation because they threaten 5% of a complacent company's market dominance, we will be in a truly troubled America. The socialist state or dictatorship may be a dramatic example, but we would only move closer in that direction.
You are right about the other larger issues, but this is not the forum for that. If the gov't can not handle a small issue like this one, be it incompetence or corruption, how can it even begin to tackle the major issues? I ask this on all the blogs, "Can anyone truly have a monopoly on audio entertainment?"
FCC Commissioner Adelstein Puts Forth Radio Merger Offer [View article]
I am saddened to think there are revolutionary products out there people are willing to spend $$ on, but big business threatened by these products can kill them. If it was through fair market competition, I would not have a problem with it, but it is through lobbying, stall tactics, government incompetence, government investigation, and corruption that these products consumers demand can never be realized. It saddens me as an American to think that innovation, hard-work, and risk taking (the american way) can be stiffled through bribery and lobbying simply because someone with an inferior product stands to lose 5% of the market share. How are we to ever get anything done in this country anymore that government needs to be involved with? I am so frustrated, saddenned, embarrassed, etc.

There are already minority stations. I have siri and there is a korean channel, about 5 spanish channels, urban stations, BET. There is even a gay channel. They cater to anything and everything. What could the Georgetown partners provide that could be so compelling? If it was compelling, they would not have to force people to broadcast it.
Also on the monopoly thing. I can not believe this is even an issue. How can the NAB and FCC actually take this seriously and try to sell it? All products that compete have variations or niches that set them apart, but they are all part of a broad market. The FCC's job (do they really do anything) is about communications, not market analysis. If the merger results in a monopoly with Siri/XM pushing around consumers, then break them up. No one can predict the future and the government really sucks at predicting the economy/future. Can anyone truly have a monopoly on entertainment or audio entertainment? Maybe clear channel can if the merger keeps delaying and these companies fail.
Sirius-XM Merger Decision Delay Is Unacceptable [View article]
Great article by the way. We need more. This should be national news! A waste of time and $$. Why would the NAB care so much about a monopoly if the did not compete with SATRAD? The fact they are fighting so hard makes it obvious it is not a monopoly. Why is this such a difficult decision to "own"? It's common sense and that is all the FCC has to vote on.
Sirius-XM Merger Decision Delay Is Unacceptable [View article]
Has anyone seriously looked into a possible lawsuit against the FCC? There is no reason for the delay. If they are scared to own the decision, all they have to do is agree with what the DOJ suggested. The DOJ took a year investigating and evaluating what seems like common sense to anyone not affiliated with the NAB. They did all the homework and concluded it was not a monopoly, duh. I have a choice (which is the opposite of monopoly), between satellite radio, ipod, CD's, and terrestrial radio. Almost any vehicle you get into has these "choices" inside. The FCC did not need to "own" any decision, it was laid out there for them and is clear to anyone. At this point there should be room for a lawsuit involving gross negligence, stall tactics, lobbyist kickbacks, etc. I am for a full investigation, lawsuit, and overhaul of the FCC.

I would definitely like to be involved in a class action suit. The DOJ did all the hard work for the FCC. There is no need to stall other than corruption or stupidity at this point.
