I think you're confused - this is a business *advantage*, not a negative. Microsoft would love to be in a business that didn't need customer service, especially since they - like 99% of other businesses out there - suck at it. Goggle's business is overwhelmingly self-serve. Even their support is self-serve (Google groups). So instead of hiring a call center in India for tens of millions a year, Google sets up a few rackmounted servers, and still builds a business that has Microsoft looking on with envy. Genius.
