  • Newmont Mining Is Now Too Cheap To Ignore With A 5% Yield [View article]
    Editor The Lewis Letter
The NEM dividend is "tied" to the price of gold quarterly, not earnings.
This is a most compelling read, best effort of all recent reviews of Newmont Mining, Well covered.

  • S&P downgrades Newmont Mining (NEM) to negative from stable "following a sharp correction in gold prices given the heightened potential for leverage to exceed the maximum 2.5x EBITDA threshold that we view as supportive of the current rating, particularly if the lower price is sustained and production costs and capital spending are not reduced. The price drop also highlights the inherent volatility in precious metals prices." [View news story]

S&P has been very wrong before and will be again. Let them read yesterday's Barron's that predicted a 40% rise in Newmont's stock. In my model portfolio to stay with its current 5.25% dividend yield.

  • Ford's European And South American Woes Could Spoil Earnings [View article]
    Editor The Lewis Letter
Would allow that Ford will use its accurate GPS system to give shareholders good news despite Europe and SA. North America and Asia have contributed mightily. The CEO Malally wants to leave at the top.

  • Caterpillar Inc: Riding Out The Trough [View article]
    Editor, The Lewis Letter
CAT management usually gives shareholders an upbeat review turning bad into good as the stock price confirms. Perhaps after repurchasing its shares there will be some change left for a dividend increase. Even an inch will be appreciated.

  • Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B) is more likely to sell its ~A$7.1B stake in Woodside Petroleum into any significant share price strength on the back of the special dividend just announced by Australia's top oil producer, Macquarie says. Selling now would provide a timely injection of cash for Shell at a time when it’s spending billions of dollars on new facilities in Australia to produce LNG for export. [View news story]
    Editor The Lewis Letter
Shell's smart management has a tail wind in making these decisions, stock undervalued compared to its peers. In my model portfolio with Chevron, Conoco Phillips, Phillips66. Grand slam.

  • AT&T: Financial Shenanigans, Painful Truth Coming [View article]

AT&T stock making new highs disputes your effort. Stocks "never lie".
    Well written, wrong slant.

  • Peabody Energy (BTU -1.7%) sinks to its lowest price in four years as Stifel Nicolaus cuts its earnings estimates, citing lower coal prices and higher than expected costs. With 40% of planned 2014 production yet to be priced, BTU likely would benefit if a utility stockpile decline brings a recovery in thermal coal prices, the firm says, but Australia is a drag on results given continued slow demand for coal exports there. [View news story]
Well spoken. The "Street" has very little respect for the current BTU management as the stock action confirms. Maybe when they go to Gillette for the annual meeting they won't come back and a Wilbur Ross type will occupy the executive suite. Canaries will sing again.

  • Why Caterpillar Shares Probably Have Not Bottomed Out Yet [View article]
    Editor, The Lewis Letter
Reaction to CEO's comments yesterday underscores his credibiity with the financial community, very positive and hopeful. $7.00 bucks ain't bad for an $80 champion. Stock has weathered the worse. This management is shareholder friendly. It cares.

  • Chevron (CVX +0.9% makes another natural gas discovery offshore western Australia, as a discovery well in the Carnarvon Basin encounters 132 feet of net gas pay. CVX says a string of discoveries in the greater Gorgon area has created a robust gas portfolio in Australia, which helps position the company to supply future LNG demand in the Asia Pacific region. [View news story]

Pleasant surprise, BTU has been undervalued for too long. Management woke up and shelled the coffers with better numbers than consensus, still lack financial community respect. Hopefully the canaries will sing again and the lamps will light up.

  • Fuel-Efficiency And Affordability Are Driving Force Behind Ford's Sales In The U.S. And China [View article]
Great piece, could not agree more. Ford is in my model portfolio to stay until its becomes of legal age 18. Right now it is a teen ager ($13.11). CEO Malally will leave with accolades from stakeholders who owe him big time.

  • Analysts at RBC Capital think credit downgrades for some top gold miners are a strong possibility. There's a “moderate probability” Barrick Gold (ABX -0.1%) could trigger a one-notch downgrade at $1,400 gold; at $1,300, Newmont Mining (NEM +1.9%) could get downgraded, and Kinross Gold (KGC +1.8%) could get cut right to junk status. TD Securities also offers similarly disturbing conclusions. (also[View news story]

The BRICS have been buying gold from the PIGS for over a year, The threat of Cyprus selling gold forced by "drag-your-feet Dragi" was an unfounded scare as there are ready buyers for such sales. If China wants tio go back to the gold standard rest assured they will be size buyers as will India, Russia and probably Japan. These guys hate to lose.
