  • Microsoft Must Get Ford's Mulally [View article]
Both Boeing and Ford are mainly one product companies ( airplanes and cars). Henceforth, I do not think Mulally is the right candidate to lead a diversified and technological company like Microsoft.

  • Microsoft: The Surface Bust And Windows Slump [View article]
MSFT reminds me of Kodak which depended on film profits ( MSFT depends on windows) until digital capture took over and you know the rest of the Kodak story.

  • Telef√≥nica Puts Its Weight Behind Nokia [View article]
Totally agree with comments that consumers in the world have different needs and budgets. Henceforth, marketing and selling strategies should be different in each major geographic region; but, world wide product line up should be limited to only few models due to constant product innovation, to reduce inventory costs, reduce manufacturing switching costs, facilitate the full understanding of product features by retail store personnel who play a significant role in product acquisition particularly in underdeveloped nations.

  • Microsoft Should End The Steve Ballmer Experiment [View article]
You can have the greatest products; but, if your employees are dissatisfied and work under a very harsh environment, it will be difficulty to deliver positive results on the long term. Products is a key factor; but employees have a similar weight in the success equation.

The reorganization is intended to correct past failures; henceforth, Ballmer had a good insight that he was not getting the results he expected in Q4. If something works, why change it?

  • More on Microsoft's (MSFT) reorg: Office chief Kurt DelBene is retiring, and advisor Craig Mundie is leaving the senior leadership team. Microsoft will be split along functional lines, such as engineering, sales, finance, and HR, that cross product boundaries. CTO Eric Rudder will run an Advanced Strategy & Research unit, Windows exec Tami Reller will head marketing, and COO Kevin Turner will continue to handle worldwide sales (but not marketing). Ballmer: "We will see our product line holistically, not as a set of islands." Sources tell Kara Swisher Microsoft might also see big changes in financial reporting, ones that could shield the performance of struggling units from investors' eyes. • Steve Ballmer (MSFT +0.3%) has been working with only "a small group" of direct reports and board members on his restructuring plan, Kara Swisher reports. That naturally has many senior execs left out of the process on edge. Many expect Ballmer to start revealing his plans internally by month's end. One source: "It feels like it is going to be titanic — that Steve is doing this change for his legacy ... And it’s the first time in a long time that it feels like that there will be some major shifts, including some departures." [View news story]
As a result of the restructuring, stock will go up immediately , whether or not the restructuring is what MSF needs for long term
    growth.

  • Will Microsoft's Product Message Be Heard This Fall? [View article]
I believe that a selling price of $1000 for the Surface Tablet will drive MSFT share price up at least in the short term.

  • "The content that was once printed for distribution or portability is now simply being distributed or shared electronically," writes Deutsche's Chris Whitmore, summing up the long-term threat the printing industry is staring at. Whitmore estimates top vendors, including H-P (HPQ), Lexmark (LXK), and Xerox (XRX), have seen their sales fall at a 6% annual clip over the last 10 quarters. The depressed valuations assigned to the group show Whitmore is far from alone in being this pessimistic.  [View news story]
Same as the photo printing industry (PPI) ; except that PPI started to decline 12 years ago.
