Not only did they tell those managers they would no longer have a job, along with about as many supervisors, which the position were "scheduled" to be cut into a third of what they held; they had what they didn't anticipate. That is that many very respected and talented managers and supervisors who valued customer service above most else would decide to not even take the position out of pure disgust for the way the company handled things. People were literally given a 2 day window to "re-apply" for their job. Now, the aftermath of the actions of corporate OfficeMax is hitting in hard. When you don't know if you'll have a job in a month, you go looking elsewhere. You take that instead of fighting for your job. Combine that with the sales associates that left out of loyalty to their morals and to the great managers that were given the axe, it spells disaster for the company. If you look up the name of the current CEO, Sam Duncan, you will see he has also nearly put two other business out of it with the same type of tactics.
