  • Nokia (NOK) has had to apologize after giving the impression that video and photographs used in a promotional material for its new Lumia 920 smartphone were shot using the device when in fact they weren't. The idea was to highlight the superiority of the 920's "PureView" technology.
     [View news story]
The problem is, from the selfish point of view of investors, there ARE a lot of dumb people around. And in all fairness, the only ones making these fine distinctions are people like us. The general public out there getting wind of this has only one predictable conclusion to jump to. Ultimately it's US who suffer thanks to Nokia's own stupidity.

Still the need for an apology is far overwhelmed by the need for a real marketing blitz on the money features of the phone, the ones that truly ARE unique and worthy. And a blasted, structured PLAN to do it with, for Heaven's sake.

There are enough things going against NOK as it is. They don't have to add any more to the list. They may be unable to control the external but at least keep their hands on the internal, controllable, avoidable things.

For a start, they could hire a presentation coach as well as a proven marketing team. And internal scrutiny for little straws like this fiasco that are just more added to the camel's back.

  • Gold Is Seasonal: When Is The Best Month To Buy? [View article]
I don't suppose this applies to the Gold miners as well. Since I stupidly bought SAND each time in September, the exact peak according to your charts. Only now finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

  • How Safe Are Silver Wheaton's Silver Streams? [View article]
Thanks, for me a very useful summary. It's hard to keep track of all the various agreements streaming companies have and you've laid it all out very nicely and simply here. I definitely think SLW is worth getting back into again but I'm looking for a lower entry point. Likewise for SAND. I share the same sentiments as Moon above: As prices drop SLW will still get less for the silver they are going to sell, and since having fixed price agreements is a double edged sword since they don't have the flexibility to pay less now. So margins are going to get compressed.

I suggest if you're still holding to that conspiracy theory which is completely baseless you'd better wake up fast. If indeed funds ever wanted ARNA at all in the way you describe you can bet they want it a lot less now after today's CC.

  • What China Should Do About The Gold Crash [View article]
Clear article as always and I followed your reasoning perfectly. However, I am a bit puzzled as to the purpose of the article. Forgive my ignorance, but it seems to be about telling the Chinese how to benefit from the current situation, at the expense of gold longs. Not that the Chinese government wouldn't already have thought of this but... Why would you do this?

  • Sandstorm Continues Its Growth, Stock Is Attractive [View article]
Thanks Chris. SLW is on my radar as well. I just added again to my SAND position, but am going to wait a while more before acting. I don't think this overreaction will correct soon given the downwards momentum and the volume of selling, but we'll see what we'll see, I suppose!

Thanks Daniel, certainly appreciate any intelligent thoughts during this trying time. I thought it would have been priced in, however when lemmings jump off a cliff it's pretty hard to tell what would stem the purge. Current PM situation not helping too, which everything all been thrown out with the bathwater.

  • Sandstorm Continues Its Growth, Stock Is Attractive [View article]
Chris, would appreciate some quick thoughts on

    1. Do you think the Mongolia issue is just sabre rattling or is there a real danger that an agreement will NOT be reached, in which case I am not sure I see a bottom any time soon in terms of price

    2. Slightly off topic, what do you think of SLW now? It's the lowest it's been in quite a while.

In both cases I don't want to catch a falling knife but my instinct says it may be worth setting some cash ready to average down.

    Thanks!

  • Sandstorm Gold's CEO Discusses Q4 2012 Results - Earnings Call Transcript [View article]
Agreed. Also I'm wondering how come SA didn't send out a simple summary of results, beats/ fails like they usually do with all the other stocks after earnings report. It's hard to decipher which parts are good or now. Ah well, I guess looking at the price change, the markets have spoken.

  • 3D Systems: For Experienced Speculators And Momentum Players Only [View article]
    Afam,

Thanks for a good solid article that gives me hope that there is quality to be found yet and that SA is alive and well. A recent spate of next to worthless articles stating the obvious or without obvious due diligence has left me exasperated.

Thanks for also sharing a bit about your strategy. It's always good to hear what real people are doing and confirmation that a solid plan is better than no plan at all. I sold out my DDD way too early; really there was no way to differentiate at that time between fundamental flaws and MM (you probably remember a couple articles that jarred lots of investors). I didn't feel too beat up about it and reading your article and your thoughts helped.

Look forward to similar level headed articles from you in future!

I couldn't access the CC. Was anything concrete mentioned about the FDA/ DEA issue which is the one true piece people both long and short all really want to hear?

  • Nokia Lumia 920 Price: Champagne Taste And Beer Money [View article]
Any time I see another article that starts off by saying that NOK sold off on the lacklustre Lumia launch, I switch off already. If the writer making such a claim can't interpret a simple price/ volume/ intraday chart and make even sensible correlations, even other points he makes which may make sense gets buried.
