Buying Gamemaker Webzen as a Value Play [View article]
Great article, I appreciate the analysis. I also own WebZen, and an am avid gamer as well.
So, I was awaiting their upcoming game “Huxley” even before I owned their stock. This is a game that combines the elements of First Person Shooters (like Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament) with Massively Multiplayer Online RPGs (like World of Warcraft, Everquest)
While there are dozens of FPS’s and MMORPGs coming out all the time, there are very few MMOFPS’s- in fact, I’d say there’s only been one true one to date, and that’s Sony’s Planetside, which came out a few years back.
So as those numbers would seem to indicate, Huxley is going to be a pretty unique game. But MMOFPS’s aren’t rare because there isn’t a market for them- they’re rare because they’re incredibly difficult to pull off. If WebZen pulls it off, they’ll have every hardcore gamer from here to Korea, on PC and Xbox 360 singing their praises.
