The big reason for Yahoo's negative earnings growth in the past couple years is the change in stock option expensing during this period. I don't know how Google compares in regards to stock option expensing however.
I don't feel it is likely for Microsoft to buy Yahoo simply because I don't think they want to buy a unix-based company. I've heard it was a fiasco converting Hotmail to Windows and I doubt they want to go through that again on an absolutely gigantic scale. You can't figure they would let Yahoo sit running FreeBSD either. They're just too arrogant.
