Companies Facing Pension Deficits and EPS Impact [View article]
It would be funny if it were not so scary.
The government learned to do with Social Secuirty the same thing many major Corporations did with their pesions......
Corporations need money ?
Take it out (or not pay into) of the pension funds.
Government needs money ?
Take it out of the Social Security fund.
The sorry part is - the next sucker CEO or US President will have to worry about it. This IS going to happen....but it will be WAY, WAY too late for anyone to fix.
And us Boomers are in for some nasty retirement surprises.
Kind of explains WHY we're in the financial mess that we are right now.....and I hear people saying the Government should run the banks ???

I cant imagine having my personal information sitting on some GOOGLE server.....waiting to be read by an unscrupulous employee or hacker.

There is a PRICE to be paid for having it sit in the clouds.....not so much your Blog, but tax returns, financial papers and other sensitive information. It's SO much easier to back it up yourself and stay away from the clouds !!
Touchdown: When Do Financial Stocks Hit Zero?
Thinking that If every financial stock in the DJIA went to zero and the dow would "only" lose 331.25 points is pretty disingenious, in my opinion.
Seeing as a large part of the problem with the market and financials is based on peoples "perception" and "sentiment" of what is and is "going" to happen is responsible for much of our problems right now.
If the financials went to zero, you would probably be looking at Dow 4000.
Unfortuantely, hysteria rules the day more than charts do.

I'd venture to say both......or very, very, short.

At the rate the market has been diving, I would safely say that when stocks go to ZERO, we can safely assume the bear market has ended (toungue in cheek, of course).

Heh heh....just wait until you see how many customers they lose from the nightmare of a few days ago......NO way to get in on your brokerage account online, Failed trades initiated online, no possible way of calling their trading desk (due to high volume, your call cannot be connected, please try back later).
(Don't worry, there will be a government bailout of the auto companies courtesy of the Obama administration. The unions are already lining it up through their friends in Congress. The bondholders, stockholders and we taxpayers will be the only ones who take it on the chin.)
The unions are not the problem in this country, it is the greedy CEO's and their underlings who rape, pillage and plunder the corporations, employees and stockholders to line their pockets......
Or have you not been paying attention to the newspaper headlines ?

A whole lot of misinformation has been bantered about by the talking "heads", much I would presume initiated by "Short Raiders".
But the retail shorts always keep me humoured though.
Presumably, they are the one's that cannot discuss the merits of your opinion without denegrating themselves with cheap shots about your suit.
But then again, that is what (far too) many people in this country have come to, further your agenda at ANY cost.
Bring back the 1940's and 1950's, where people actually cared for other people and their country.

Maybe I'm too conservative, but the possiblity of a 30% return verses UNLIMITED losses (if this GB/BB comes to fruition) seems like financial suicide.
Surely there must be some sector out there that offers a "safer" risk/reward ratio ?

Highly unlikely.
This market right now, is in the midst of "Wealth Transfer".
Wealth being taken from retail (all of us) to the hedge, institutional and big brokerage funds.
Call me crazy, but these guys need to replenish their empty "pots".
The Government knows full well what banning short sales and reinstituting the uptick rule would do.....thats why they have NOT done it.
Not till the big boys are done "cleaning" up.
Heck, if Russia can SHUT their markets down, our government could reinstate the "uptick" rule quickly.
IMHO, maybe wrong, but thats what it looks like to me.
