    When something goes up everybody think it's going up forever. When something goes down everybody think it will never recover.

    Oil will go back to 70-80 USD sooner than later. Current price is only the consequence of a covered economic war that will end eventually because some of the countries involved in it can't survive with the oil at or under 40-45 USD, it does not take a genius to see that.

  • No Excuses: Falling Gasoline Prices Are Impacting Tesla's Sales [View article]
    @alphaunderdog

    I have a custom built Brabus Mercedes-Benz and a 911 Turbo, so what? I live, when on holidays, in a high income island here in Europe where there are a lot of high end car enthusiasts. I have seen 1 Tesla model S, only 1. You could say huh but that's quite a lot since they build a low number of them. The fact is I see more Pagani, Overfinch RR, Weissmann... go figure, not to talk about AMG Mercedes or M BMW's, which are more expensive but are sport sedans also as the Model S.

    This is Tesla's moment, no competition, subsides... if they can't grow lightning fast now, BMW, above all, will kick their asses. Seriously, go and try the i8 and i3, and then think about a BMW sedan competing with the model S. Not a chance. Not only the car, but the brand: customer service (I'm talking about having 1 seller-customer service at least in every small city), reputation, second hand market... Tesla has room until 2017-18. Let's see what happens.

    There's world outside California and the US. I'm aware that Tesla is doing very well there, but make no mistake, the rest of the world is very different. The price TSLA has right now reflects a worldwide successful even mainstream car company. Excuse me but that's ridiculous.

    I think EV will eventually be the norm, but I think top luxury cars will maintain combustion engines too as top luxury watches maintain its mechanical movement just for prestige. That being said, I think this will be a much larger process than you think, maybe 50 years or so, and during this the market will be a mix of combustion, hybrid and EV

    That being said, I'm 27, and I would say that kids with a low budget can't afford an EV, and I think the second hand market for this type of vehicles has a lot of problems like the enormous cost of battery replacement, and kids with a high budget prefer a Range Rover, Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes-benz, BMW or so.

    Teslas have IMO a very niche market. I think they are more a mid-aged-green-conscious cars than anything else. I can imagine a 45 year MD who listens indie music driving a Tesla model S, but not much more kind of people... well, outside California, Norway, Sweden... and these kind of peculiar places at least.

    The BMW i8 however, that type of technology and brand can be a top seller concept if they adapt it to other vehicle platforms. In fact Tesla should be very worried since BMW is entering this space at full throttle in 2017-2018

    Some of you are missing the point that Tesla is focusing too much in the US, and historically every car company which did that ended bankrupted, figure out today with the chinese market. China likes traditional european car companies because they force them to build their cars there partnering with a local company because they think they can acquire know-how doing so.

    China likes bling and status symbols too much for buying a Tesla instead of a Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Range Rover... and the European market is much much more conservative than the US one (and much more chauvinist about cars), we won't be changing our premium historic european brands for an unknown untested car from the US, here US cars are known to be low quality and tacky. Tesla has just tested one of the strangest and smallest markets here, Norway. Now try that in the big 5.
