Activity Therapist working in a Retirement Community/Nursing Care Facility for the past 15 years. From my job, I have learned the value of planning well for retirement and the consequences of not planning. I am a rookie investor but quickly learning. Especially interested in dividend stocks, preferreds, senior notes, and learning to write covered calls. I have no background in finance but am an expert SAVER! . I try to use the SA Community to get advice and ideas on how to best grow my savings for retirement.

A small, individual investor, I mainly focus on deep value micro and nano - cap companies. I especially enjoy investing in net-nets and stocks with upcoming catalysts. While I'm currently not a professional investor, I do manage some accounts and would love to one day invest full time.
Early middle aged investor trying to attain financial independence for his immediate family and also leave a small legacy at his death to serve as a foundation for future generations. Timber sent me to school and allowed me to obtain my professional degree. Parents were excellent savers but not investors due to scars from the Great Depression. Favorite maxims are: "A fool and his money are soon parted" and " Always look within, not outside, for answers." Appreciate all discussion on SA, especially from "battle scarred, time tested"' elders.
I'm a retired ex-university-professor and software entrepreneur who is enjoying learning to manage a diverse portfolio focused almost entirely on producing income. I get a great deal of really actionable information from Seeking Alpha which is why I read its articles religiously. I've begun writing a series of articles for SA that chronicle my learning how to be a wise investor in the hope that other investors, particularly retirees, will be able to profit from my mistakes.
OK, it's now about three years after I first started lurking around SA and one year into my retirement. Thanks to getting heavily back into the market in 2009 and jumping into the world of high div and high div growth stocks (MLPs, REITs, BDCs, CEFs, and some of the 4+% big cap div growth stocks), I can afford a few speculative trades now and then.
My timing was perfect with early to mid 2009 as a major entry point for me for 90% of my portfolio. However, my speculative trades and channel trades have not worked out so well timing wise, but I keep these trades to 5-10% of the total investment portfolio.
Currently, working on techniques to minimize risks to income from investments while minimizing the time required to maintain the stocks in the portfolio. Investment income and a pension from a high-tech company are more than enough to support my wife and I at 57 and 62 years, respectively, and we've decided not to draw social security early.
I continue to think SA is one of the best avenues around for learning and sharing about investing, and encourage everyone to always do their own DD. May one day become a contributor.
Retired. Professional backgrounds in legal, accounting and general contracting. Strongly entreprenurial................many small businesses. Top 100 in some sectors as to national size ranking. Macro oriented Former CEO & Chairman of Board. Emphasis Energy, Health Care, Agriculture. Next 10 yrs future value..Very blessed.
I am a busy surgeon with a particular interest in personal finance and investing. My father, a retired financial advisor, taught me discipline and the power of dividends and compound interest. I do not feel it is necessary to employ expensive, self-motivated brokers or managers to invest one's money.
