  • The Global Oil Scam: 50 Times Bigger than Madoff [View article]
So why is the manipulation only to the upside? At some point they'll create a glut. I think these firms know how to short oil and realize they can make as much shorting if they chose to, unless they're depending upon other institutions who are more prone to going long than short. But that would actually be even more beneficial to the big boys having ready buyers of their shorts.

  • Don't Believe Long-Term Oil Forecasts [View article]
What everyone need know is that China and the rest of the emerging nations can't go it alone for long. Sure, China has vital reserves and their timeliness in reverting from being solely an export driven economy into to the world's best infrastructure play is the key to their continued expansion but this has a finite life. Internal domestic demand has limitations. Single child families need to provide for their elderly parents livelihood, and the per capita income wasn't so high to sustain that without dynamic export growth. This is where the tire hits the road. China needs the American consumer, and 10% unemployment and an eroding dollar isn't a prescription for what will ail China. Ultimately, this all feeds into world oil demand. China is far more intelligent than American politicians seeking to ramp up demand of oil for the purposes of storage when prices are low. We will revisit sub-$50 oil sometime in the next couple of years.

  • Obama 'Shines' Natural Gas [View article]
Obama isn't a natural gas supporter. He is a carbon loon. The Obama administration will do nothing to push along greater adoption of natural gas infrastructure. Its really not about foreign imports as much as its about carbon.
He will only align himself with wind, solar and alternative fuels that provide jobs in the farm-belt states. He won't even drop the tariff on Brazilian sugar ethanol.
Aside of more stringent cafe standards, and European sized gasoline taxes, I expect we will see little progress moving to an alternative to imported oil.

  • Six Companies Poised to Gain from a Natural Gas Auto Mandate [View article]
First of all, natural gas is $.85 a gallon in Utah and only Utah. If the infrastructure was available, the supply of vehicles that used natural gas would rise as well. With all of that the demand would rise for the fuel which would adversely affect the cost of the fuel. The cost for natural gas vehicles is higher than standard internal combustion engines, and it is about 40% less efficient with miles per gallon.
Our domestic supply is maybe a hundred years but it would be affected by new demand. That means we would likely be subsidizing to build the infrastructure that has a diminishing life of domestic supply.
Pickens plan is to use natural gas in trucks. Trucks use diesel for two very good reasons. First, diesel engines produce better torque for pulling. Second, diesel trucks are 30% more efficient in mileage than gasoline engines. Natural gas engines are 40% less efficient than gasoline engines.
