Thanks to IncomeHunter for saying it as it is. Where there is smoke there is fire --and neither NLY nor CIM have moved effectively to put out the fire. So plenty of "red flags" are there.
I held a stock during the 60s until it went bankrupt and my father, who was younger than I am now, never let me forget it. I learned.
Each of the six independent directors of Chimera Investment (CIM) purchased 18,588 shares of company stock the day after Christmas at a price of $2.69/each - summed up, about $300K. They're the first insider buys of 2012. [View news story]
A check of mortgage REITs as the Fed looks to continue banging away at their net interest spread: Among the pure-agency REITs, HTS, which slashed its dividend last night, -2.3%. Also, AGNC -1.2%, but NLY +0.8%. The non-agency players mostly fare better, DX -0.1%, IVR -0.3%, EFC -0.1%. [View news story]
I noted that my CEF and SLW were up today, but I didn't make the connection with REITs until you spoke here. Thanks. I'm going to work the charts and see how the correlation runs. I did buy more AGNC today.

True enough, NLY knows all there is to know about CIM -- and when we question CIM's viability, then we ought to question NLY as well. There's a skunk somewhere, the scent in the air.

In any case, I'll be watching EMR, again. Thank you!

Mr. Lokey makes good observations on the reckless mindset behind our monetary system.
I am retired and have about lived the normal, expected years. In any case, I have targeted consistent dividend payers above 6% yield, and have about 50% in cash, waiting for opportunity. I think that has something to do with hedging.
