An interesting comparison. I would only add that many Western economists and policy-makers publicly express skepticism of China's march to market economy, but too often make that their career opportunity as a China critic. China's economic influence on the global market in the 21st century is already visible. The question remaining is the cultural impact that China will have on the world's citizens. This week in D.C. national leaders and educators convened to discuss a subject not well publicized in the financial community - the importance of learning Chinese language and culture in the 21st century. Demographics are already in China's favor - Mandarin Chinese may just be the lingua franca of the future.
