  • An End To Our Relationship With Yahoo, A New Era For Equity Research [View article]
Frankly, after being told that I had not been insulted when I was, there was no option but to "take my business elsewhere".

I am wrapping things up here in answering people like you who were kind enough to respond to me (thank you by the way) :) but I don't plan on coming back unless SA sees a sea change.

I contributed over 3000 messages without ever being insulted and then suddenly was the object of several attacks over less than two weeks.

Since SA thinks it's what's to be expected, I sadly say "no with me participating"...

That's where my line is. :)

Thanks for the kind comments Dave. I'm glad I had something to contribute for you. :)

I never minded disagreement. Actually, I like disagreement as it allows you to sharpen your thesis (or so I thought) or allow you to see a problem with it.

I do have a problem with being insulted and being the object of personal attacks. I don't have time for that, just like I don't have time to endlessly report abuse like that of "A Prudent Investor" and his endless new aliases.

Also, I was told the insults I was the object of were not objectionable, which, to me means I am no longer welcome (and I have the weakness of thinking I do know when I'm insulted vs. someone disagreeing with me). :)

Add to that the fact that many of the contributors I like here are feeling the same as I do and it looked to me like it was time to go (3000 posts is also way too many and it meant I was wasting too much time).

Again, thanks for the kind comments. I will miss people like you. :)

Sadly it doesn't work. I tried every solution and was told insults were part of what makes SA great.

But even when the deletion works, you've still been insulted. so where's the help in that?!

When you add the people flooding discussion boards to prevent discussion and the various "disinterested parties" mucking up the works and insulting the few good contributors you have something I've come to dislike.

Given SA has zero intention of cleaning up its discussion boards, I'm gone.

So is this place. I stopped commenting but still got attacked and insulted again by the same guy SA thinks is an interesting contributor.

    What a joke SA is!!!

Left SA as your policy of letting your members be insulted freely had made me feel highly unwelcome on your site.

I must say I am quite disappointed and while I won't avoid reading it. I'll refrain from commenting and have already taken my portfolio info elsewhere so I won't have to use your services.

I don't understand how you can stand so proud of what you're doing when the level of commenting has descended into the gutter.

    What a shame!

Saratoga: You're the one person I was incensed to hear SA had threatened even as it was doing so little about API flooding the boards (and one of the few people I "follow" - that would be illegal in real life... ;) ).

That's my plan Long. There's a few people I follow and I'll occasionally look at the page. I won't cut off my nose to spite SA. but unless and until they change (and frankly my interactions with them were more of the "this is why we're right" kind than "we'd hate to see you go" kind) I'll use the other site I found that actually has a way better news feed (at least for my money!)

Very true. I expect my time on SA to be slashed by 80% on short order. Lurking is a lot less time consuming than participating. ;)

Thanks for your good wishes and I'd like to extend the same to you. :)

Thanks for the warning. I guess I'll use it only as a news source. I'm moving my business elsewhere in great part because I am very disappointed by SA's management.

A lot of contributors here are very intelligent, which makes SA's attitude towards rude poster, troll, people who flood boards with nonsense etc bizarre.

They act as if they value those people more highly than intelligent contributors (going so far as threatening great contributors when they respond in kind to the trolls they tolerate). They seem to want members to police the boards, with SA acting as the impartial judge and frankly it's not something I'm interested in participating in.

I'll just read the articles and not come back for the discussions.

Thanks STS. I was going to ask you the same question. I'm going to try Marketwatch and see if their news feed is acceptable as I'd rather limit my page views here after the way I felt I was treated. Un-moderated (or poorly moderated as this one is) boards are just useless to me when it comes to investing.

I'm striving for a passion-free assessment and getting insulted is just not conducive to it.

Don't know why SA doesn't care (and the lack of a quick response to the A Prudent Investor case shows they are either unwilling or not equipped to keep this board viable for what I need from it if I'm going to invest the time into it)... Maybe the fact that "controversy" equals page views makes it difficult for them to get rid of people like API and too many others.

Thanks for all your interesting comments in any case. :)

    Hi Buzz:

Finally felt like you and decided to stop posting here (not as much of a loss as if you decided to stop writing articles).

I have to say I know how you feel and given the coarsening of attitudes here (being insulted twice in ten days when it never happened before tells me SA is over for me especially when SA management says there's nothing wrong with being insulted!)

I will keep reading your articles which are some of the very few worth reading here frankly (I was here for the comments but now that it's lost its usefulness beyond you and a very few others there's not much here for me!)

    I appreciated your insights. :)

    Hi Saratoga:

Just letting you know I decided to stop posting on SA (and frankly will be looking for a replacement site) as I am very disappointed in the management's decision to let all the rude people continue to be protected and I no longer feel this is an environment for the friendly exchange of ideas (being insulted isn't my idea of stock research and I frankly feel like they don't think what I have to offer has value to them so I should take it elsewhere!).

I will miss your insights (and may still read them but will refrain from responding).

Thanks for all the kind responses. :)

One of the reasons I have decided to stop contributing here.

That and the fact SA's management has decided that boorish, rude and otherwise bullying behavior would keep being protected (if not encouraged) in the future.

Thanks for the kind response Sleuth! :)

Sadly, I have decided to stop posting in the future.

SA management said they would continue to tolerate the various rude and frankly bullying tactics of posters here so I decided it wasn't worth my time to contribute any longer.

I felt I was probably wasting a lot of time here anyway (not with you who I will still be following) and SA's comments on rudeness being an intrinsic part of the site makes me feel unwelcome.
