Amy opinions about MTGE? I sold a while ago so as not to ride it down, but it's now a lot lower than it's been.

I'm not sure what time frame you are referring to but I own TICC and SLRC and SLRC has given the same dividend since its inception and TICC has only increased it dividend since the crisis.

Taking capital out to work on is, in my view, a lot more dangerous than taking dividends out.

When the market goes down, you still get your dividends (assuming no cuts) and you capital while nominally lower, has not been sold.

With taking profits out, you capital is depleted as prices go down.

With any strategy, of course, price appreciation is best.

I'm not sure I agree with you about the market being "enamored with dividends". I think the bias towards growth is still abiding.

Buybacks are questioned (finally) because most of them don't work.

Thank you for putting MTGE on my radar.

Do you know why American Capital wanted to have another high-yielding mReit?

Indeed, the yield is great. It's just hard to pull the trigger at this level. I certainly was (pleasantly) surprised by the upside since AGNC hit $30.

    Thanks for the response, Jaded!

You are very right to mention AGNC. I own it and it has been a boon to my portfolio both in income and capital appreciation.

My only fear on AGNC is that it has run up quite a bit and the steady stream of "don't invest in AGNC it's too dangerous" articles seems to have abated.

It may mean we are close to a top in the stock.

As someone who relies on dividends for income, I'd never say that "paying dividends is nonsense" no matter what the qualifier.

That said thank you for the interesting article.
