This article would be truly ALARMING, if it was true. It's NOT! --In 1940, national debt as a % of GDP was 50%, NOT 160% -- In 1945, it SPIKED to 120%, but NOT to 180% -- In Carter's time it was 30% but went up to 65% in Reagan/BushI --It dropped to 55% under Clinton but SPIKED to 75% in BushII --We are now looking at 85% in 2010 because of Bush's two "quickie," multi-trillion dollar wars, his medicare enhancements, the mini-depression, and Obama's health care. While nothing to brag about, it is less than half of the debt problem caused by WWII.

Disagree on Monster. Times have changed since the last prolonged down cycle. Growing overseas strength and growth (>50%) will eventually negate North American weaknesses and balance out overall business.
