  • Duke Energy (DUK) is upgraded to Outperform from Sector Perform by RBC, which cites positive regulatory developments in North Carolina and Indiana plus limited downside risk. "Duke is a core holding for utility investors and deserves a premium valuation due to above average earnings growth, high yield, and stable, constructive regulatory environments," the firm says. [View news story]
Duke is a long term hold for me. I am considering buying more due to it's favorable price and dividend return.

  • General Electric Is Set To Grow [View article]
I like GE, now to qualify that. Before the crash GE had a 3 for 1 split @$150 a share. They definately still have a long way to go, but I feel they are headed in the right direction and might be a good time to get some before they get back on top.

  • Analysts line up Diamond Foods (DMND +2.8%) as a possible acquisition target as the company puts its earnings reporting troubles in the rear-view mirror. One potential suitor could be Kellogg (K +0.3%) on the theory that if the food company target was called a "good fit" by execs last year with DMND trading at $28 a share - it might look even tastier at $16. [View news story]
There was a connection before with Pringles. Kellogg got it Diamond didn't. Might be a good match.

  • Smaller medical-device makers such as Cardica (CRDC) are tacking surcharges on to their products or warning of price increases to cover a 2.3% sales tax that came into force on Jan. 1 as part of Obamacare. Larger manufacturers like Medtronic (MDT) and GE Healthcare (GE) haven't explicitly added extra fees but are expected to bake them into contract renewals.

Who's surprized that the costs would be passed on? That's the way it always works...Dah! Who thought Obamacare would be free? That was never in the plan. Just because you will be guaranteed health care doesn't mean any of it will be free!
