Is Amazon's Kindle Outpacing Early iPod Sales?

Did you decide to write this piece 5 minutes before deadline? Your premise is as faulty as a sub-prime loan.

You completely discount that Apple single handedly defined and created the digital download market. They blazed the trail for everyone else. Why not ask yourself: Why didn't Amazon launch at the same time as Apple's first iPod? Could it be that they didn't have the technology? Could it be that they didn't know how to do it? Could it be that the mobile carriers didn't have the infrastructure to carry the bandwidth, and wouldn't have until Apple mobile devices demanded it?

If you intend to make an Apple pie, don't try to make one with oranges....

How Apple Can Fight the iPhone Browser Lawsuit

Ya know, when I first heard about this fiasco, I read through the EMG patent and I stopped about halfway through the claims. Don't those hacks realise that XML is the root language of XHTML, RSS, to name but a few; and is an OPEN SOURCE, FEE-FREE OPEN STANDARD? And one of its intended implementations was and is to transition web-based content to mobile devices?

Ergo, this patent, on its face, is absurd, because ya can't patent an open source tool. Were this patent to prevail, it would completely shut down the Internet on any mobile device, regardless of how one chooses to navigate the XML-"page" on a mobile device.

This one is as ridiculous as a patent on the human genome, which essentially says that a pharmaceutical company owns my genes. Screw that!

Patent trolls are a boil on the rump of innovation. Let's hope that the new administration gets out a lance and some strong antiseptic; and those good ole shit kickers in East Texas find a new way to fill their dockets and line their pockets.

Saab May Be GM's Best Hope for the Future

As a SAAB owner for 30 years, and an American living in Europe for 17 years, I wish GM would peel off the company. I own the last pre-GM model of SAAB, and since GM took over, the SAAB as a truly unique car has become a moribund American hack, like all of the other American hack automobiles.

Anybody want to know why the sales of SAAB have slipped? Just look at what GM has done to the once graceful lines and high performance. They've turned it into just another hideously-styled American box on wheels, with slushy under-performance and low quality finish. They've taken an industry benchmark and turned it into an also-ran.

I feel that the bailout for the big three should be abandoned. For decades, Detroit has churned out slop that no one wants to buy. Why should they be rewarded for their arrogance in believing that with big bucks thrown at marketing, they can sell sh*t to those who don't know the difference between that and Shinola?

Give us back our SAAB!

Jeeze, Thomas, you Americans do still think you're the centre of the universe. I agree with Sac Tanko. Here in Europe telephony is light years ahead of the US. Moreover, we have usage plans that blow yours away. So, as Sac says, as the internet is a universal medium you should preface your remarks accordingly. And stop whinging. Caveat Emptor, baby.

First you say "...It should be mentioned that the Gartner Group estimates cannot be tested for accuracy and that the arguments put forth in this article are based on Gartner's findings.". Then you say, "it can be supportive of hard evidence such as that presented by the Gartner Group."

Then you go on for paragraphs on end making predictions based on completely noisy data. Garbage in Garbage out.

Money is money; and supreme innovation, setting the tone for the entire consumer-based computing industry for the past decade, consistent growth and profits cannot be disputed no matter how they are tweaked.
