While I agree an inventory of housing is an unproductive investment. Home ownership is certainly related to the productivity of labor and I'm pretty sure it adds to the consumerism that is the foundation of our economy. Therefore, I can't agree that an historic goal of subsidizing housing in the US economy has been without benefit to the overall economy.
