Economies work best when they are sustainable and local. Too much has been made of the idea that it is good to ship product thousands of miles to customers. Such, shipments are logically more expensive because of shipping costs - and include parasitic middlemen markups. Only, excess goods need to find markets outside of their local production areas -- or, unique goods desired by externals.

Houses were originally looked upon as a store of wealth a hedge against inflation if well taken care of. House appreciation speculation has been fostered upon the middle class as a reality. We see now it is a myth for most accept for the those captians of Fannie and Freddie, etc. We as a country need to: 1. produce things, 2. provide services, 3. save; and, 4. think.
Yes it is true that fast moving markets (Electronic Trading Where Momentum Is Beyond Human Ability to Process) decimates the old process of the floor specialist maintaining an orderly flow of "actual stocks" (those that exist in their account and which are not wished into existence by way of Electronic-Hide-and-Go... see: www.sec.gov/news/speec... a tutorial on record keeping.). The question is one of speed. The speed of electronic trading has made the markets a bit of a shell game.
