Thanks Erick - this kind of information is very hard to come by - so your reporting is much appreciated. Good job, kid - keep it up!

  • Online Video Advertising: From Analog Dollars to Digital Pennies [View article]
Thanks for the reporting Erick - online video needs leadership by those who love the moving image - not by technology engineers. “When you love what you’re doing you can’t help but be successful.” Technology engineers love gadgets and gizmos, they know nothing about content (that feeds the soul).

Thanks Larry - but break-through solutions often come from unorthodox talent (obviously). That’s why bad economic times are so tragic - everybody stops listening to the crackpots. Maybe Goog’s trying to keep the energy going.

  • Online Video: The Transition of Media from Old to New [View article]
Thanks for posting Mr. Hurley’s full transcript - and I would like to add that, at one time, YouTube said that their business approach wouldn’t be based on mass consumerism - but they seem to be having difficulties with that. But maybe they could ask Steve Jobs for guidance - because he’s the only Silicon Valley guy whose ever understood how to harness the commercial power of Art.

I watch pretty much every experimental video that’s uploaded to YT, and I rotate the very best ones thru my Favorites List - and almost nobody’s watching these experimental videos on YouTube - they’re getting like, only 40 views a week! Something’s wrong, “Has anybody seen Steve around?” Or maybe, try the New York Times, Arts & Leisure guy, or maybe one of the film curators, from the Museum Of Modern Art? There are other qualified people around who can help. No - I have a better idea - PopTub!

  • Google Keeps Us Guessing With Content Question [View article]
Thanks for the info - I think any content that feels like an ‘event’ can work. I just wish these experiments were for more sophisticated tastes. What Goog really should do is hook up with museum curators (like from MOMA) and present sophisticated user-generated videos (selected by people who know WTF they’re doing!), and not try to regurgitate mainstream TV for the kids.

  • Google vs. Viacom: Google's Strategy [View article]
Intellectual copyrights should be protected. Mashups are parasites on original creations - they’re bloodsuckers. It’s ironic that people feel that it’s okay to steal from original content creators, because those creators are almost always the poorest among us. But we’ve always raped our artists (that’s what they’re here for). Viacom is only a figurehead on this issue.

  • Why Does Social Media Fail to Generate Revenue? [View article]
Thanks for your thoughts - but I believe Eric Schmidt said just last week that making more money from YouTube would start happening within weeks. He also said that Google could always have made more money from YouTube, “If we wanted to shove advertising down viewers throats.” Your article addresses the big issue of the video future. YouTube certainly doesn’t want to copy what the pathetic broadcasting geniuses from Westchester did to television. Wall Street is filled with greedy freaks that continually kill the geese that lay the golden eggs. Schmidt and the propeller heads from the valley don’t want to make the same mistake.

  • AOL Seeing Strong Site Traffic Growth,
Top Ad Network Reach [View article]
Yes I’m not surprised – my perception is that AOL is quietly doing some new stuff (especially with wholesale video distribution) that’s gone largely unnoticed. They seem to have some video search and indexing tools, that are powerful and proprietary.

  • Why You'll Be Using NBC/News Corp's Hulu Long After YouTube Fades [View article]
But come on - there’s much more than cats and dogs on YouTube! And it’s often extraordinarily fresh and original stuff. Some of us are tired of that same old homogenized entertainment product manufactured by toupe wearing men from Westchester.
